Strengths and weaknesses of a person in a resume is an example. Negative sides in a resume

When applying for a job, employers often require a resume. Some of them, in addition to work experience, general information and listing the merits are asked to indicate weak sides character. And here a dilemma arises: how to properly disclose your shortcomings in a resume? If you think that they do not need to be indicated at all and that it is enough just to put a dash in the corresponding column, then you are deeply mistaken. In order not to be trapped in this situation, check out what HR specialists advise on this matter.

Features of resume writing

On the one hand, writing a few words about yourself is an easy task and does not require special knowledge and skills. However, as practice shows, those who adhere to this point of view are often refused employment. Therefore, the more respectable the company in which you want to get a job, the more important it is to write your resume correctly.

The volume of the resume is not conducive to presentation a large number information. It usually fits on 1-2 computer sheets. Therefore, it is especially important to summarize the necessary information that will highlight your personality and attract the attention of a human resources specialist. When writing text, weigh each word and present your weaknesses correctly.

For example, if you're worried about your age group, start by listing professional qualities or work experience. Move your date of birth to the bottom of your resume. Or if your future job involves frequent business trips, and yours is growing up Small child, be sure to indicate that you can leave it in the care of relatives or a nanny.

To correctly reflect your weaknesses in your resume, take into account a few basic rules.

  • Pay close attention to the presentation style. The text should be written clearly and understandably. If you can convey information during the interview different ways, then what is written will be perceived unambiguously.
  • Never ignore the box in which you need to indicate your weaknesses and character traits. This can lead to the fact that you are either written into the category of insecure and notorious people, or considered a person with too high self-esteem.
  • Don't be afraid to be honest. The truthful reflection of information, especially regarding your weaknesses, indicates how self-critical you are and how adequately you assess your own strengths and weaknesses.

Examples of weaknesses

When filling out the box about the shortcomings, take your time, think carefully about each phrase. If you do not know what to include in it, review the options below and select those that characterize you. At the same time, try to select such character traits that, if desired, can be wrapped in merits.

Among the weaknesses in the resume, indicate, for example, the habit of saying everything directly and frankly; difficulties in establishing contacts with strangers; hyperactivity and restlessness; excessive emotionality, sensitivity and impressionability; tendency to fatalism, etc.

Try to select such character traits that, if desired, can be wrapped in merits.

However, you don't need to be overly frank either. Add to one or two professional traits and a few that do not play an important role in the work activity. For example, indicate that you are afraid of flying or have excess weight... You can also point out such shortcomings as excessive gullibility, a tendency to reflect, or frequent self-delusion and self-criticism.

From social weaknesses, you can write that you do not fit well into the work team, because you do not like gossip, or you cannot fight back in response to boorish behavior. With a skillful approach, each flaw can really be turned into a virtue. And if among the weak character traits you indicate reliability, then this only plays into the hands of the employer himself, since he will see in you a person who can be entrusted with overtime tasks.

How to present weaknesses of character correctly

Some weaknesses can be directly correlated with the characteristics of the profession. So, for example, for an accountant or storekeeper, such shortcomings as mistrust, pedantry, inability to lie, increased feeling responsibility, lack of diplomacy and flexibility in labor issues can become positive in work activities. But it is better for a manager or realtor to indicate hyperactivity, self-confidence, impulsiveness, inability to take their word for it and a desire to double-check the information themselves.

It should be noted that often job seekers go to the cunning and present their advantages in the resume under the guise of shortcomings. Before doing this, it is worth carefully weighing the consequences of such actions. Of course, you can point out the desire for perfectionism or excessive diligence among the weaknesses, but keep in mind that the employer can easily suspect you of insincerity.

Important nuances

Honesty is good. However, some negative features are still not worth pointing out. Under no circumstances should you write that you like to be lazy, are afraid to take responsibility or are incapable of making decisions, are not punctual, are often distracted, etc. You don't need to get too carried away when listing the weaknesses. It is enough to name 2-3 negative qualities... Do not use fluid language and do not indicate those features that would go against the requirements for the position.

Not everyone requires your resume to include your weaknesses. But if there is such a point in the form, then it would be a mistake to put a dash. Instead, see an example of a character's weaknesses on a resume.

What is worth writing

Consider your answer before filling out the box in which you need to indicate the shortcomings. In no case do not miss it, because ideal people do not exist. Typically, managers want to see how well you assess yourself. If you don't know what to write, look at the suggested options and choose something that suits you best.

A universal formula: choose such character traits that are a virtue for doing this particular job, and in ordinary life can indeed be considered a human handicap.

The following weaknesses can be written:

  • excessive directness, the habit of speaking the truth in the face;
  • difficulty in making contact with strangers;
  • inability to be flexible in labor matters;
  • reliability;
  • increased anxiety;
  • excessive emotionality, irascibility;
  • love of formalism;
  • restlessness;
  • slowness;
  • hyperactivity;
  • fear of air travel.

All of these weaknesses in the resume can become merits if you look at them from a different angle. Restlessness can be cited as an example. For a sales rep or active sales manager, this can even be a plus. The same goes for reliability. This is a signal to the manager that you can be the person who will do all the overtime work.

Linking weaknesses to the specifics of professions

All job seekers need to think about how to correctly write my weaknesses for a resume. For example, a prospective accountant or design engineer might write:

  • distrust;
  • excessive scrupulousness;
  • increased anxiety;
  • excessive demands on yourself;
  • straightforwardness;
  • pedantry;
  • modesty;
  • inability to lie;
  • difficulties in establishing contact with strangers;
  • pride;
  • lack of flexibility in labor matters;
  • adherence to principles;
  • overestimated sense of responsibility;
  • lack of diplomacy.
  • hyperactivity;
  • self-confidence;
  • restlessness;
  • impulsiveness;
  • the need for external motivation;
  • mistrust, desire to double-check and confirm all information.

Disadvantages for one profession can be advantages for another.

You can also indicate in your resume among your negative qualities:

  • straightforwardness;
  • workaholism;
  • excessive love of communication.

Applicants for the position of a leader need to prepare before completing the indicated field. It is better to think in advance what weaknesses to point out in the resume. They can write about such character traits:

  • excessive emotionality;
  • pedantry;
  • love of little things;
  • thoughts about work, planning take most free time;
  • increased exactingness to others.

A good example is the following formulations:

  • inability to respond with rudeness to rudeness;
  • the tendency to make decisions based on their own opinion;
  • distrust of people and love of confirmation of facts.

Some job seekers choose to indicate that they:

  • overly trusting;
  • can raise their voice to subordinates;
  • are straightforward, express their opinion without veiled embellishments;
  • irascible;
  • always looking for confirmation of words;
  • have a hypertrophied sense of responsibility;
  • are prone to formalism and pay too much attention to trifles;
  • irritated by the mess;
  • slow;
  • do not like to do something to please others.

For all occasions

Many people are afraid to write about shortcomings, believing that the employer will immediately send their resume to the trash can. Of course, you should not be too frank, but you should not completely skip this section of the questionnaire. In this case, you can write about some neutral qualities that will not affect the work in any way. For a person applying for any vacancy, among the inherent weaknesses, you can indicate:

  • fear of airplanes;
  • arachnophobia (fear of spiders), vespertiophobia (fear of bats), ophidiophobia (fear of snakes);
  • excess weight;
  • lack of experience;
  • age (suitable for people over 40);
  • love of shopping;
  • love for sweets.

This information does not characterize you in any way, it just speaks about your fears or small weaknesses.

Such disadvantages can be voiced:

  • I do not always accurately express my thoughts;
  • I trust people too much;
  • prone to reflection;
  • I often analyze past mistakes, focusing too much on them;
  • I spend a lot of time evaluating my actions.

These are negative qualities, but they should not affect the workflow.

Regardless of the position you are applying for, you can write the following weaknesses on your resume:

  • I am so fond of work that I forget to take breaks;
  • I can't build relationships with colleagues, because I don't like gossip;
  • I cannot fight back in response to a boorish appeal;
  • I constantly pass all situations through myself;
  • letting people get too close;
  • I do not know how to swear;
  • I noticeably worry when I have to lie.

Important nuances

Please note that there are points that are best left out. You shouldn't write, for example, that you:

  • love to be lazy;
  • afraid to take responsibility;
  • do not like to make decisions;
  • non-punctual;
  • are often distracted;
  • think only about the salary;
  • love office romances.

For example, writing in your resume about your laziness, you run the risk: the employer decides that you do not want to work.

If you sing well, then you need to constantly improve this skill. If you don't cook well, then you need to make every effort to learn. The only thing that causes difficulty is yourself strengths and weaknesses of a person... How to identify them? How to find what is worth improving and what needs to be developed? The difficulty lies in the fact that many people prefer not to see their weaknesses. They just say that they are not. It is not true. The article will help you understand your personality. You will learn how to determine your strengths and weaknesses, you will be able to find the path of self-development.

What are your strengths

Personal strengths are often asked in interviews. This is one of the textbooks psychological techniques, which is used by many hi-ares. But applicants are aware of such a question, so the answers are usually standard. Weaknesses are written to a minimum, and sometimes not written at all. But do not forget that you are being interviewed by an experienced professional who has studied his business. Therefore, stereotyped answers can become a minus, not a plus.

Therefore, before hiring, and just to determine the characteristics of your personality, you should find your strengths. The difficulty lies in the fact that no one will decide anything for an adult. If in childhood, parents constantly dragged us to circles and sections, trying to develop talents, now the life of adults is only work and sometimes rest. Almost everyone forgets about having a hobby, about a talent that can be constantly improved. This is where disappointment in general activity comes from. Units accidentally find their niche and become successful in it. But more often than not, a person just goes with the flow.

Strengths human are based on talents. We all know what we do best. If you are a wonderful culinary specialist, then your talent is the kitchen. If friends are heard when you start singing, then your talent is singing. Etc. Talent can be not only something creative, some people masterfully know how to negotiate with other people. This means that their talent is negotiation. You just need to think about what you do best. This will be the talent. The next stage of self-development will be to hone skills in the chosen business. No one can achieve perfection, but it is easy to significantly improve skills.

Naturally, in the resume for the position of office manager, you do not need to write in the strengths of "the ability to cook". However, this talent is a true strength. If I can cook well, then my strengths are discipline (it is simply necessary to fry meat for a specified amount of time, and so on), responsibility, information (I'm constantly looking for new recipes), imagination (coming up with dishes requires creativity). Any talent can be decomposed into strengths of your character... You get along well with people, which means that your strengths will be the ability to win over, responsibility, individualization (orientation towards the personality of an individual person, acceptance of it). You are distinguished by a sharp mind, which means that in the column of strengths you can write not only intelligence, but also learning, the desire for new knowledge. Even if you don't have any creativity, your hobby is stamp collecting, your strengths will be competition and discipline.

Then you need to transfer your personality strengths and talents to reality. If you love writing, then you can work as a journalist or copywriter. If you love children, then you can easily go to school or Kindergarten... The main thing is that the business is enjoyable. Work without pleasure will be a real hard labor, and there is no benefit from it. You need to clearly understand your talents, highlight your strengths and find a job to your liking. These are the three criteria for a happy life.

Dealing with weaknesses

Each person has both strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, a mature, successful and self-sufficient person should be able to admit his weaknesses. You cannot say that you are perfect. First, it’s not true. Secondly, with this thesis you can stop your personal development... Weaknesses are not something negative or embarrassing, these are traits that should be developed, improved, and tried to turn them into strengths. If you are constantly engaged in self-development, you will become a full-fledged person and find a balance in life.

It is necessary to identify your strengths and weaknesses. If everything is clear with the strengths, then what might be the weaknesses? These are natural laziness and procrastination, the inability to get up early, problems with public speaking, shyness and lack of character. Each person himself knows where his weak point is. You can be completely undisciplined, always be late everywhere. You can be unassembled, do everything at the last moment. You can be afraid of contact with strangers and so on. Some of the weaknesses are easily corrected on their own or with the help of a psychologist. Others are difficult to change, but you can adjust your life, adjust them to your weaknesses so that they do not cause inconvenience. Weaknesses and strengths of a person- this is part of the character, it is impossible to completely get rid of them.

For example, you are often late. The advice “leave early” does not always work, people who are late simply do not know how to control their time. Then the way out is to appoint business meetings in the office in the middle of the working day. You will definitely not be late there. If you do not know how to plan a workflow, then you should think over the sequence of doing things. Leave the most difficult and important at the beginning of the working day, and move those tasks that can be postponed or postponed to the end. Even if you do not have time, it will not get worse. You can also designate the staff of subordinates to whom some powers are delegated. As a team, you can easily complete everything on time.

Failure to speak in public is a problem for many people, even often for leaders. Working with a psychologist and constant training corrects this weakness. But it can also be circumvented - just delegate communication to other people who are better at this task. If you are an "night owl" and cannot think well in the morning, then it is better to postpone all important matters to a later time. Thus, all weaknesses can be adjusted so that they do not interfere with full-fledged activity.

Analysis of strengths and weaknesses in the interview

Many job seekers are interested in the question, why are they asked about weaknesses in interviews? Needless to say about them, suddenly it will negatively affect the results? In fact, the absence of weaknesses in the questionnaire is already a negative quality that will definitely alert the recruiter. The company must be prepared for your weaknesses. You never need to worry about this issue, it can alert the hi-macaw. All your strengths and weaknesses should be presented calmly, without unnecessary panic. Then you will definitely be assessed as a full-fledged person and a mature person.

Self improvement

It is necessary to constantly be in development. Even if you have talent, there are certain strengths and weaknesses of character, then you cannot throw them away. Good voice requires constant training to improve the skill. But your talents belong to the area that you like, so more often than not people know what strengths of a person, during their life they try to develop them. But what about the weak?

Do not think that if weaknesses fit into your life, then you can let things take their course. You can schedule business meetings in the office for a long time, do not be late for them, but you will definitely be late for the plane. He will not come to your office. It is necessary to fight against the inability to plan time, gradually getting rid of this weakness. If you leave early, half an hour or even an hour, it is better to wait at the airport than to miss your flight. This applies not only to airplanes, but also to friendly meetings, dates, and so on. You need to constantly try to correct your shortcomings, or at least continuously work on yourself.

Every person has advantages and disadvantages... So that the weak do not become the dominant part of your personality - develop. It is not so difficult, but self-development promises success at work, in family life, leads to harmony and happiness.

A good, well-written resume is a strong argument in favor of hiring. It can become a serious advantage, so it is worth starting your job search with its preparation. In the West, careerists keep resumes throughout their lives, and new lines are added with advanced training or a job change. The document providing information about the applicant before the interview is part of the business etiquette, which should not be neglected.

What you can and should write about yourself in your resume

There are basic points that must be spelled out. Indicate strengths in your resume, avoid unnecessary things, only informativeness. A resume is a short summary of skills and qualities. Show that you are a serious person with a focus on results from the very first lines. So what you need:

  1. Personal information: name, date of birth, marital status. You can add a photo if you want.
  2. Contacts. Enter your phone number and address Email at the beginning of the resume. This will make it easier to find them when someone wants to contact you.
  3. Desired vacancy. It is imperative to fill out this item.
  4. Education. List all institutions, courses, trainings that you have completed. School, university, attended a seminar on NLP - your knowledge base should be impressive. Be prepared to document each item.
  5. Work experience. Have you already held a similar position? Indicate this on your resume. To a person who does not have a single entry in work book will be viewed with suspicion.
  6. Additional Information... Here you can talk about your hobbies, strengths and weaknesses. Carefully select the personality traits for your resume. It will be a plus if they turn out to be useful in the position.

Professional skills and abilities

Describe yourself on your resume: Show the employer that you are competent for the position. Possession of computer programs, knowledge of languages, availability driving license- all this must be described in this paragraph. Arrange resume skills and abilities in order of importance for future work. If you have a specific, not very useful talent that you want to point out, do so at the end of the list.

Personal qualities of a person

Education and experience are not the only assessment criteria. Personal qualities are not required for writing a good resume, but in many situations they can play a decisive role. Imagine what kind of employee does the director of the company want to see? Do you have in common with him positive traits, can you look competitive? Be sure to write about it, be sure to use your pluses!

Strengths and weaknesses of character

Correctly selected good and bad personal qualities for a resume will help you get a job. If you handle your responsibilities, character weaknesses will not be as important. Often the same trait becomes a trump card or interferes with work. Put your shortcomings in your resume as advantages, show your willingness to work on yourself. Purposefulness is strong point character that is appreciated in the team.

What weaknesses can be indicated in the resume

The employee's task is not to scare away, but to show that you do not suffer from high self-esteem. Be honest, but strongly negative personal qualities are inappropriate for a resume and should not be mentioned. The second column of the table will scare off the employer. Personality traits from the third will play a positive role for certain posts. Do not be cunning and do not try to present advantages as disadvantages. This will be conspicuous and convict of insincerity.

Examples: individualism is good for a creative profession, it helps presenters or artists stand out from the crowd. Working in a team, on the contrary, must be able to become a part of the team and take into account the opinions of others. The pedantic nature will interfere with working quickly, but it is appropriate where quality comes first. Modesty will get in the way of communicating freely with customers, however, if done right, it will make the company look good.

Not everyone requires your resume to include your weaknesses. But if there is such a point in the form, then it would be a mistake to put a dash. Instead, see an example of a character's weaknesses on a resume.

Consider your answer before filling out the box in which you need to indicate the shortcomings. In no case do not miss it, because ideal people do not exist. Typically, managers want to see how well you assess yourself. If you don't know what to write, look at the suggested options and choose something that suits you best.

A universal formula: select such character traits that, for this particular work, are an advantage, but in everyday life they can really be considered a human flaw.

The following weaknesses can be written:

  • love to be lazy;

  • love office romances.

For example, writing in your resume about your laziness, you run the risk: the employer decides that you do not want to work.

It is known that there are no phenomena or events that would have only positive or negative consequences, therefore, each of the factors of the external or internal medium should have a comprehensive assessment of the mechanisms and results of impact. In addition, it must be borne in mind that the analysis of the environment is carried out by certain persons who can evaluate events and phenomena in different ways, develop various approaches regarding the behavior of the enterprise in certain conditions. There is still a basic rule: you need to analyze the external and internal environments in their interconnections and dependencies.

Strategic balance is a certain combination of negatively and positively influencing factors (threats and opportunities) that affect the company's activities, which objectively exist in the external environment of the enterprise and are subjectively changed by managers, with relatively strong and weak sides in functional enterprises. In addition, the greatest threats arise when the negative development of the situation in the environment is superimposed on the weaknesses of the enterprise, opportunities are situations in the external environment, a positive process or phenomenon in which the enterprise has the opportunity to show its strengths. It is necessary to identify threats in a timely manner in order to prevent a crisis of the enterprise, and knowledge of potential opportunities makes it possible to write in advance for the most effective use of them.

Drawing up a strategic balance in Western literature is called SWOT analysis.

GENERAL EXTERNAL OPPORTUNITIES AND THREATS TO THE ENTERPRISE USED IN SWOT ANALYSIS

To develop strategies, it is not enough to state the influence of certain environmental factors. To ensure the survival of the enterprise in the long term trade union perspective, it is necessary to predict trends in the development of chances and thunderstorms. The fact that the analysis and forecasting of trends should be carried out simultaneously is confirmed by the list of stages of the SWOT analysis (Table 2.15).

The need to process large amounts of information predetermines the use of various statistical methods data analysis: one - and multivariate, descriptive and inductive methods, dependency analysis methods and relationship analysis methods. At many enterprises, when applying SWOT analysis, regression, variational, discriminant, factual and cluster analysis are widely used. The application of this or that method depends on the level of the scale of dependent and independent variables, as well as the content of the phenomenon or problem that is the object of analysis. The quality of the analysis performed ensures the reliability of the forecasts based on it (see Section 2.7).

MAIN STEPS OF SWOT ANALYSIS APPLICATION

Analysis of the current situation (diagnosis)

Analysis of the future (forecast)

1. Analysis of critical internal and external factors

2. Assessment of external factors (expertise)

5. Forecasting development trends for each (selected) external factor

3. Evaluation internal factors(expertise)

4. Who are we and what are our competitive advantages (disadvantages)?
