Beginner English tutorial. Independent study of English. How to quickly and easily learn English? English language teaching method

A little bit about yourself: I am 27 years old, my name is Nikolay, I come from Russia, but I have been living for a long time in Ukraine, in the city of Nikolaev. I never got an A and B in English, and I’ll even say more: English for me was something akin to space. That is, we all know (well, or almost all) that somewhere far away in the Universe there is a Milky Way Galaxy, and that our solar system, is a small speck in its immense cosmic-star mosaic. But this does not prevent us from bothering over all sorts of worldly trifles like quarrels, intrigues, envy, hatred, etc. by the list. Let all sorts of astronomers deal with the stars, they - smart people, and we are down-to-earth earthlings (sorry miles for the tautology). This is how I thought in relation to "English". It seemed to me that I was completely incapable of foreign languages and that the skills to learn it are genetically programmed at birth. But, the desire to learn something, and to learn something useful, at one point spurred me to study the "language of Shakespeare."

Introduction

The question of studying a foreign language, sooner or later, arises before every civilized person. Perhaps a vital necessity will be an incentive to study it, or maybe you just want to prove to yourself that you are worth something. In any case, the main thing for success is striving, without it, as they say, "write is lost." The language of interethnic communication around the world is English, according to Wiki, more than one billion people on our planet speak it, while 410 million people speak English as their native language. India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Ireland, Great Britain - in all these states, English has an official status, and this is not a complete list.

My experience

Based on the popularity of English, as well as on the fact that once I was "lucky" to learn this language at school, I decided to try my possibilities with it. It is worth noting that life circumstances did not force me to learn a foreign language, and to a greater extent it was my inner desire to prove to myself that I am worth something. But on the other hand, I wanted to try my hand at translation (maybe I will turn out to be a super-duper translator?). Before that, I had already taken up English several times, but to no avail - I did not know where to start, and there was no suitable material at hand. Once I had a chance to read a wonderful discussion on the age-old topic "which language is the easiest to learn?" So, among the majority of answers like "English of course" or "Certainly German", one user (upd. 09/15/11: the user was a girl under the nickname Lena ;-)) wrote: (this is not a literal quote, but the essence is preserved) “The easiest language to learn is the one for which there are enough teaching material» ... And I completely agree with this person. The more textbooks to study, the more chances that one of them will definitely suit you, since we are all individuals, and what suits me may not suit you, and vice versa.

English from scratch for free

So, I decided that I would study English. But, before that, I had several unsuccessful attempts. First, as for me, any computer courses - full "G". No, maybe there is at least some benefit from them, but they should go only as an addition to the main course of studying a foreign language. For example, the same Oxford Delux has a fairly convenient form for memorizing words, but everything else did not impress me. And besides, I don’t know how whom, but I was constantly distracted from studying at my PC: either a friend would write something in ICQ, then I would like to watch some video on YouTube, then it would check my mail and blah blah blah, in the same spirit. As a result, I opted for a paper version, at first I wanted to start learning English with a red "Murphy", it says For Begginner (for beginners), which actually bribed me, but all the tasks, albeit with pictures, were presented there in English, which in my case turned out to be overwhelming. After many hours of searching on the Internet (and I was looking mainly for "Rutreker"), I came across a topic about two volumes Natalia Bonk English step by step ", I read the reviews of those who downloaded and once studied English on these books, and I fired up: I have never met so many positive comments before. At first I thought to learn English from the electronic version of the textbook, but for the reasons described above, I still forked out and bought a paper version.

"English Step by Step" is the bestseller of Russian teaching pedagogy of English language

The two-volume + "answers" cost me 80 hryvnia (~ 10 dollars), while there were no audio materials in the set with the books. "It doesn't matter," I said to myself, "because everything is on the Internet." From the very first pages it became clear that the authors decided to dwell in detail on each section of phonetics and grammar of English, while everything was given in a chewed form, so I did not notice much stress at the initial stage (much in the future depends on it). True, I was a little embarrassed by the fact that Natalya Alexandrovna proposed to devote to the study of English not less than 400 hours(200 hours of self-study + the same amount of time for classroom work), and this for each of the volumes. I was ready to spend ~ 2-2.5 hours in English and at the same time study a maximum of four times a week. In my case, the study dragged on for two long years, which upset me a little. But, as I wrote above, the textbook by N. Bank all-embracing, that is, everything is here: grammar, phonetics, vocabulary + extensive audio material. I just wondered: do I need all this? It is important to understand that EVERYONE the language is divided into four parts: speaking, listening, writing and reading - for English... Studying Russian, Ukrainian, and any other language as a native, we did not bother about this. First, we developed "listening", then, on the basis of this, we learned to say certain phrases such as "Mom", "Dad", "I want to eat", etc., and then - we went to school, where we were already taught read and write (of course, everything is individual, and someone mastered reading and writing back in preschool age). So, all this happened in our life gradually, we were in NECESSARY linguistic environment, where every day we heard more and more new words that were recorded on our "sub-cortex". Studying a foreign language and living at the same time far from the places of its widespread use, you will not be able to achieve excellent possession all four of the above components. In other words: want to learn to read in English - read, write - write, talk - talk, etc. Something will have to be sacrificed, you certainly will not have all this outside the English-speaking countries (of course, with rare exceptions). I decided to stop reading ...

How to learn to read in English

As I wrote above, I decided to improve my reading in English. However, I did not come to this right away, and I refused only from monotonous listening to audio materials. In general, I began to pay less attention to the rules of pronunciation of English words. Indeed, in the language of Shakespeare more exceptions than the rules themselves.

For example, the famous German and English philologist Max Müller, who lived in the century before last, whose dictionaries, by the way, are used to this day, called the English spelling " a national disaster". And in the words of the linguist there is a lot of truth.

"Inglish" must be taken swoop, there is no need to stretch out the study, but you should not be in a hurry either. That is, if you took up English just a month ago, you should not deceive yourself and try to read English literature. It will be hard group sex with a book and a dictionary, and nothing more =)). I say this from my own experience. After a month and a half of intensive studies, I asked myself: why not read me something in English? I downloaded some adapted work, and ... I got stuck on the first page for a good half hour. So many new words. “Oh, and this is how it is translated, and this is how to pronounce(I was still bothering with the pronunciation), ”I kept repeating to myself. In general, such reading completely discouraged me from approaching English books =)). The same can be said about audio courses.

For example, there is on the network wonderful audio material for English learners it is called Effortlessenglish, its author is the notorious A.J. Hoge, an English teacher from the United States. And now there are a lot of people who have read positive feedback about this course, I naturally became eager to try it. Well, it turned out about the same as with adapted English literature: a lot of new words, unknown spelling rules for certain times. Saved only by the fact that each audio lesson was accompanied by a PDF file with the read text. But, in the end, I gave up these classes, although they are very interesting and non-standard, and for those who want to improve their "speaking" and "listening" in English, I would strongly recommend this course, from about 3-4 months of study language. A.J. himself advises to take up his method, only when you will understandable up to 70% from what he says. The American philologist makes the main emphasis on repeated listening to English short stories, whereby the student will involuntarily memorize not only new words, but also understand the very structure of English sentences.

So I decided to focus on on learning grammar and completion vocabulary... Due to small absenteeism (work, getting a second education), I was a little out of schedule, and finished the first volume of Natalia Bonk closer to the middle of the fifth month. But, I studied it, what is called "from cover to cover." And after that, not without awe I decided to try my hand at reading in English again.

Ilya Frank suggests learning English through reading

Only now I chose Ilya Frank's method, a Russian political scientist and philologist who has published a whole series of books in different languages (English, German, French, Spanish, etc.) adapted for Russian-speaking readers. The technique did not help much in practice. English reading how much in the removal of psychological fear, before foreign letters. That is, it is one thing to read adapted texts in the Bonk textbook, and quite another to read normal English-language literature. Frank's technique is to break the English text into small paragraphs, each of which is followed by VERBATIM Russian translation. This is very convenient at the initial stage: you read the English text, delve into the essence, and already in the next paragraph you check what you understood there, and what you imagined =)). I so mastered several books, small, as I remember now it was "Rip Van Winkle" by Washington Irving and "Killers" by Ernest Hemingway.

How to learn to read in English or my own method of learning English. Part two

"English step by step" - a good self-study guide of the English language

Along the way with reading adapted books, I studied the second volume of the textbook "English Step by Step" by Natalia Bonk. As for reading, Frank's books were too voluminous, there was given a translation of everything and everyone, i.e. even such all understandable words as "He", "She", "They", etc. This was somewhat annoying, especially because I preferred to print adapted literature rather than read it from the monitor screen. The same "Rip Van Winkle" in the original occupying no more than fifteen pages, in the "Frankish" version fit almost a hundred pages. In general, I was drawn to the English originals. But what to take on? I didn’t like the adapted literature because of the dryness of the narrative, to an adult, I was still far away ... Many advised me to start reading in English with children's works. And I did not fail to take advantage of this advice. C.S. was selected from among the authors. Lewis, and his Narnia series of adventure books. More details by choice fiction in English, you can read in my article, which I will update as I read new books.

The Chronicles of Narnia is a great way to get to know the English language

Already from the first lines I realized that “I am in the subject”, almost everything was clear to me, and what was not - I either guessed or climbed into the dictionary (but this is in rare cases). Actually on this my opus can be finished, tk. by the second or third volume of "The Chronicles of Narnia" I had completely finished Natalia Bonk's course, for which she had a huge and ardent THANKS A LOT, and we can say went on an autonomous voyage in English literature. What is your experience of learning foreign languages ?! Leave your comments below, it will be very interesting to talk about this topic.

Advice on how to use a homemade English dictionary

To begin with, you read the information from the page. Then close the Russian words from the right column, and do the translation. Then you do exactly the opposite: you try to pronounce or write down a phrase from Russian words into English.

Nowadays, "not bad", but less effective replacement for dictionaries are word cards. They consist of two words: English and Russian, they can have a visualized picture. But, as practice shows, these printed materials can be lost.

4. Pay attention to transcription

This does not mean at all that it should be written down without exception for each newly learned word. Write down only those words or phrases that you are not sure how to pronounce. And don't forget, American English and British English are slightly different from each other.

5. Pay special attention to grammar

It is not enough to know only words, you need to be able to combine them correctly and enclose them in sentences. It is the understanding of grammar that will help you with this. The main difficulties of learning and ways to overcome them

English, like any language, has its own complexities. Let's look at three key challenges and try to find solutions for each of the points.

1.Times... Probably, the reason for this attitude to the variety of verb forms lies in the education system - in most schools, in English lessons, the teacher does not aim to use the knowledge gained. Therefore, students only learn about all the new types of times for themselves and do not practice them. As a result, they develop fear while talking. As for solving the problem: we propose not to tackle all forms at once, but to learn a group of simple tenses - past, present, future. After mastering the rules, start making simple sentences with them, also practice putting individual words in different forms. Find a companion and practice your new knowledge!

2 irregular verbs... The topic is really difficult. However, it can also become understandable. The key point is that even irregular verbs have a system. Take a couple of dozen of them for study and assign them to groups according to the method of change, so "beat-beat-beaten" and "eat-eat-eaten" will be in one, and "begin-began-begun" and "drink-drank- drunk "- in another. Have you seen a lot of matches? And one more good news: the majority irregular verbs all forms are the same.

3.Difference in pronunciation and spelling... Even native speakers will agree with you on this issue. In some lexemes, both in writing and in speech, it is easy to make a mistake. There is only one way out of the situation - pronounce difficult words for yourself after the announcer, if we are talking about writing - make sentences with this word, deliberately write it down several times.

As you can see, any difficulty is solvable, you just need to put a little patience and effort - so the difficulties will turn into tasks, and the latter will eventually be completed!

Conclusion

People who learn English in addition to their native language live much longer. In addition, they are less prone to senile dementia. The explanation is very simple: the brain for its constant activity requires regular training, which it receives from exercise.

These are perhaps the main recommendations for beginners on how to quickly learn English from scratch. Can you do it yourself, and even without leaving your home? Of course yes. Only your desire, constant training and communication will help you with this. And try not to stop there. Spanish and French languages are also worth exploring. Go for it, novice polyglots!

"Everyone new language expands the consciousness of a person and his world. It's like one more eye and one more ear, ”says Daniel Stein, the hero of the book by Lyudmila Ulitskaya. Would you like to expand your picture of the world and find mutual language with over a billion people? For those who answered in the affirmative, we will tell you how to start learning English. We hope our guide will help beginners take their first steps and show the right path for those who continue to learn the language.

To get started, we suggest you watch a recording of a two-hour webinar with Victoria Kodak(a teacher and methodologist of our online school), in which she answers the question of how to start learning English in the most detailed way:

1. Introduction: When and how best to start learning English

Some adults believe that only children can start learning English from scratch. Someone thinks that an adult is ashamed to start from scratch and learn elementary rules and words, someone believes that only children can successfully learn foreign languages, because they have excellent memory and learning abilities. Both the first and second opinions are wrong. There is no shame in the fact that you start to learn a language as an adult, on the contrary: the craving for knowledge always commands respect. According to the statistics of our school, people begin to learn the language from the first stage at 20, 50 and even 80 (!) Years. Moreover, they do not just start, but successfully study and reach high levels of knowledge of English. So it doesn't matter how old you are, what matters is your willingness to learn and your willingness to improve your knowledge.

Many people ask the question: "What is the best way to start learning English?" First, you should choose a method of learning that is convenient for you: in Group, individually with a teacher or on one's own... You can read about the pros and cons of each of them in the article "".

Most the best option for those who are going to master the language "from scratch" is lessons with a teacher... You need a mentor who will explain how the language “works” and help you build a solid foundation of your knowledge. The teacher is your interlocutor who:

  • helps you start speaking English;
  • will explain the grammar in simple words;
  • teach you to read texts in English;
  • and will also help you develop your listening comprehension skills.

For some reason, you have no desire or opportunity to study with a teacher? Then explore our step by step guide self-study of English for beginners.

To begin with, we want to give you some tips on how to better organize your classes so that your efforts don't go to waste. We recommend:

  • Exercise at least 2-3 times a week for 1 hour... Ideally, you need to practice English every day for at least 20-30 minutes. However, if you want to arrange a weekend for yourself, practice every other day, but in double the volume - 40-60 minutes.
  • Work on speech skills... Write short texts, read simple articles and news, listen to podcasts for beginners, and try to find a conversation partner to practice your speaking skills.
  • Immediately apply the knowledge gained in practice... Use learned words and grammar structures in speaking and writing. Simple cramming will not give the desired effect: knowledge will fly out of your head if you do not use it. Have learned a dozen words - write short story using all of these words, say it out loud. Studied the time Past Simple - write a short text in which all the sentences will be in this time.
  • Do not "spray"... The main mistake of beginners is trying to take as many materials as possible and work with them all at the same time. As a result, the study turns out to be haphazard, you get confused in the abundance of information and do not see progress.
  • Repeat past... Do not forget to repeat the material covered. Even if it seems to you that you know by heart the words on the topic "Weather", come back to them in a month and check yourself: do you all remember whether you have any difficulties. Repetition is never superfluous. In our blog, we have already written about. Get familiar with the techniques and try them out in practice.

3. Guide: How to start learning English from scratch on your own

Since English is still terra incognita for you, we have tried to select only the most necessary materials for you. The result is a rather lengthy list, from which you will learn where to start learning English and how to do it correctly. Let's say right away that the work is not easy, but interesting. Let's get started.

1. Learn the rules of reading English

Theater begins with a coat rack, and English begins with reading rules. This is a basic part of knowledge, thanks to which you can learn to read English and pronounce sounds and words correctly. We recommend using a simple table from the Internet and learn the rules by heart, as well as get acquainted with the transcription of the English language. This can be done, for example, on the Translate.ru website.

2. Clarify how words are pronounced

Even if you know the rules of reading by heart, when learning new words, check how they are pronounced correctly. Sly English words don't want to be read as they are written. And some of them refuse to obey any reading rules at all. Therefore, we advise you to check the pronunciation of each new word in an online dictionary, for example, Lingvo.ru or on a special site Howjsay.com. Listen to what the word sounds like a few times and try to pronounce it the same way. At the same time, you will practice correct pronunciation.

3. Start building vocabulary

Adopt visual dictionaries, for example, use Studyfun.ru. Vivid pictures, voiced by native speakers and translation into Russian will facilitate the process of learning and memorizing new vocabulary.

What words to start learning English with? We recommend that beginners navigate the Englishspeak.com word list. Start with simple words of a general topic, remember which words you use most often in your speech in Russian. In addition, we advise you to devote more time to learning English verbs. It is the verb that makes speech dynamic and natural.

4. Learn grammar

If you imagine speech in the form of a beautiful necklace, then grammar is the thread on which you place the beads-words in order to end up with a beautiful piece of jewelry. Violation of the "rules of the game" English grammar punishable by misunderstanding of the interlocutor. And to learn these rules is not so difficult, it is enough to study a good textbook... We recommend that you take the first book in the Grammarway series of textbooks translated into Russian. We wrote about this book in detail in our review. In addition, we recommend that you read our article "", from which you will find out what books you will need at the initial stage of learning English.

Do you find textbooks boring? It doesn't matter, pay attention to our series of articles "". In it, we set out the rules in simple words, give many examples and tests to test knowledge. In addition, our teachers have put together a simple and high-quality online self-taught English grammar guide for you. And we also advise you to read the article "", in it you will find 8 good reasons to take up the manuals, as well as find out when you can do without textbooks in learning a language.

5. Listen to podcasts at your level

As soon as you start taking the first steps, you immediately need to accustom yourself to the sound of a foreign speech. Start with simple podcasts ranging from 30 seconds to 2 minutes in length. You can find simple audio recordings with translation into Russian on the Teachpro.ru website. And to get maximum benefit from listening, check out our article "".

Once you've built your initial English vocabulary, it's time to start watching the news. We recommend the Newsinlevels.com resource. News texts for the first level are simple. There is an audio recording for each news, so be sure to listen to how new words sound for you, try to repeat them after the announcer.

7. Read simple texts

While reading, you activate visual memory: new words and phrases will be easy to remember. And if you want not only to read, but also to learn new words, improve pronunciation, listen to the texts voiced by native speakers, and then read them. Simple short texts you can find it in tutorials at your level, such as New English File Elementary, or on the Internet at this site.

8. Install useful applications

How to start learning English from scratch on your own if you have a smartphone or tablet at hand? English learning apps are mini tutorials that you will always have in your pocket. The famous Lingualeo app is ideal for learning new words: thanks to the spaced repetition technique, new vocabulary will not fade from your memory in a month. 9. Study online

If you ask Google where to start learning English on your own, a caring search engine will immediately send you a couple of hundred sites with various lessons, online exercises, and articles about language learning. An inexperienced student is immediately tempted to make 83 bookmarks for himself "well, very necessary sites on which I will study every day." We want to warn you against this: in the abundance of bookmarks, you will quickly get confused, but you need to study systematically, without jumping from one topic to another. Bookmark 2-3 really good resources that you will study on. This is more than enough. We recommend doing the online exercises at Correctenglish.ru. Also check out our article "", in it you will find even more useful resources... And after you have mastered the basics of English, read the article "", where you can download a file with a list of useful materials and sites for learning the language.

4. Let's summarize

The list turned out to be rather big, and we tried to collect for you only the most necessary components of a successful English language learning. However, we failed to use the most important skill - speaking... It is almost impossible to train him alone with himself. The most you can do is try to find a friend who is learning English. However, a friend with a higher level of knowledge is unlikely to want to work with a beginner, and a beginner like you cannot be an assistant. Moreover, when you study with a layperson, there is a risk of "picking up" his mistakes.

Self-study of the language has another bold minus - lack of control: you will not notice your mistakes and correct them. Therefore, we recommend that you think about classes with a teacher at least at the beginning of your journey. The teacher will give you the push you need, help you choose the right direction of movement - exactly what a beginner needs.

Now you know how to learn English on your own from scratch. We admit that the path is not easy, but if you have already set a goal for yourself and are ready to work, positive results will not keep you waiting. We wish you patience and perseverance on the way to your goal!

And for those who want to quickly reach their goal, we offer with a teacher at our school.

Many refer to the fact that it is necessary to first learn the rules of using the language, and then, learn to write, read and speak.

There is also the opposite opinion - like learning your native language, you first need to "create" a vocabulary, and then learn to read, speak and write.

Which way to choose is up to you. But the truth is unchanging, the main thing is to teach.

If you do not have any understanding of the language and your "zero", ie, Beginner, then it is better to start studying it with children's literature and textbooks for children 7-10 years old.

Unlike books for preschoolers, the information presented in them is not so primitive.

If your Elementary level, which is no longer a Beginner, but your maximum in knowledge of the language is the phrase - "London the capital of great Britain", which is not enough, but still not enough - you can start learning the language from books for older children.

However, in the first and in the second case, it is necessary to learn from scratch.

The main points of study are:

  1. Grammar rules;
  2. Creation and expansion of vocabulary.
  3. Learning the rules of reading English

Reading the rules for reading should begin. This is necessary in order to learn how to pronounce sounds with the peculiarities inherent in this language.

You should also pay attention to the assimilation of the rules of pronunciation of consonants and vowel combinations. Without this basic knowledge, you will not be able to read correctly.

Clarifying the pronunciation of words

In English, as in any other, there are exceptions. Including in the rules of reading and pronunciation of words. Many who have come to English from others do not obey any pronunciation rules.

Therefore, it is necessary to pay special attention to this category of words and learn their pronunciation, as they say, "by the teeth."

Vocabulary building

Contrary to popular belief, you need to expand your vocabulary not by memorizing individual words, but by memorizing phrases, and even whole sentences.

This method is the most effective and, due to the fact that the word is memorized in its context, it allows you to learn in one and the same time not 30 words, as it would be in the first case, but 2.3 or 4 times more.

Also, this technique also helps to memorize several meanings of the same word at once.

You can start simple:

  • Write down, translate into English and memorize your most common phrases and everyday sentences;
  • Teach and kids;
  • Learn in a foreign language.

Get yourself your own personal dictionary and write down the words and phrases you have learned. Create a special section with hard to remember words and pay more attention to it.

Learning grammar

Grammar is rightfully considered one of the most difficult sections in learning English. However, this opinion is erroneous. There are not so many rules in the English language, in comparison with others, which is why it received its status of “the language of international communication”.

However, the rules do not need to be memorized, they need to be understood. Therefore, instead of memorizing them, it is better to do as many practical grammar exercises as possible.

Reading is one of the main ways to learn any language. Speaking beautifully will help you exactly. Of course, all the most beautiful phrases and phrases for beautiful speech contained in classical literature.

  1. Duolingo- the principle of the resource is similar to Lingualeo. And the main purpose is the same - to study the grammar of the English language and consolidate the knowledge gained. However, its advantage is the ability to learn words not separately from each other, but in context, which is the most effective way to expand vocabulary.
  1. Puzzle-english Is an online gaming resource for language learning, similar to Lingualeo and Duolingo. However, its purpose is to develop listening skills. In this regard, the main educational game content on the site is audio and video games.

Have you decided to learn English on your own? Then you just absolutely need English. I decided to make a detailed analysis of the most successful, in my humble opinion, self-instruction manuals of the English language. For each manual, I will cite the advantages and disadvantages, as I did earlier in the article about the most successful ones.

Basic English course.

Basic course English language K. Eckersley is the Russian version of the famous self-instruction manual ‘Essential English for foreign students’, created by the luminary of British philology. The emphasis in the textbook is on oral and written speech... All new material is given in connection with what has already been studied, so as a result you will receive a systematic knowledge of the English language. The book has more than seven hundred pages, having mastered which, you will master English at a good level. A disc for practicing phonetic material is attached to the self-study guide.

Advantages. The material is presented with humor - some of the stories are actually very funny. There are many examples. Adequate amount of exercise. Interesting factual material. Detailed explanations. The presence of soundtrack.

Flaws. The manual is black and white, the illustrations are not interesting - therefore, if you are used to good colorful textbooks, this tutorial will make you bored. Not enough grammatical material, although it will be just right for those who study English exclusively for communication.

Self-instructional book of English: modern methods of intensive education.

This manual is intended for those who want to quickly master the most popular of foreign languages - English. The self-instruction book is based on the ESHKO method, which means that the transcription of all words is transmitted in Russian letters, which will allow using the self-instruction book even for those who are absolute beginners in learning languages.

The manual is divided into three parts. In the first, you will learn to read English words, in the second, you will get acquainted with grammar, and in the third, with situations of communication on certain topics.

Advantages. Answers are given to all exercises in the tutorials, that is, you can independently control your progress. The words that you need to remember in order to successfully advance in the study are marked with a special icon - so you don't miss anything important!

Flaws. I would attribute to the possible disadvantages the very construction of the textbook, where at first you are engaged exclusively in phonetics, then - in grammar, and only at the last stage you use both in order to learn to speak and write. There is no soundtrack.

English language. Intensive training course.

This self-instruction manual is not a self-instruction manual at all in our usual sense. It is more of a grammar manual for those who want to figure it out on their own. And not even in grammar in general, but in the use of the tenses of the English language. I would recommend using this manual as a supplement to any other self-instruction manual. Why am I writing about this tutorial in this article? Simply because Chernenko's book can be an excellent guide to the times of the English language for those who want to understand them without outside help.

Advantages. The use of tenses, on the other hand, is well considered. Everything is clear, accessible, with examples and exercises for practicing. All exercises are provided with answers so you can monitor your progress.

Flaws. An intensive course of study should hardly be limited to a detailed examination of the times of the English language. The author was clearly too clever with the title of the manual.

Self-study guide of English.

The self-instruction book by A. Petrova differs from the above-mentioned ones in that the author does not set himself the task of teaching you to speak English. The purpose of this manual is to teach you how to read and understand what you read. However, it is worth noting that the material is perfectly selected and structured, so those who conscientiously master this tutorial will be able to explain normally in standard situations. After studying this manual, you will master over 2000 words and understand the most essential grammatical structures. The self-study guide includes 26 large lessons covering various topics.

Advantages. Many lessons have elective sections focused on teaching speaking. To all control works there are keys. The structure of the lessons allows you to get good systematized knowledge.

Flaws . There are no answers to the test exercises after each new topic.

Sound self-instruction manual for English colloquial speech.

Shubin's audio tutorial consists of several books - an initial and a basic course. The manual is designed for an adult and will be extremely useful for those who are going to live or travel to English-speaking countries. The difference between this manual is that it is a system of sound exercises with sound keys. By studying English using this tutorial, you will learn to perceive the living spoken language, which is very useful when traveling.

Advantages. A good guide for those who like to listen a lot and are good at capturing spoken language. An excellent guide for those who want to learn to understand spoken English.

Flaws. Shubin's self-instruction book was released in shaggy 1976, so a lot will seem primitive to you. Some of the information is already hopelessly out of date.

New cool English tutorial.

Author. Dragunkin A.

Not so new - 2005, and not as cool as the author would like, but still worth mentioning Dragunkin's self-instruction book - a sample of the author's statement about English grammar. The manual can be used as a supplement to any classic tutorial with texts, situations, dialogues and exercises, because Dragunkin has only rules.

Advantages. The textbook differs from other language grammar reference books. The presence of the author is very clearly felt here. Many motivating points. There is a lot of informative information, not only in terms of learning the language of information.

Flaws. All material is replete with underlines, bold emphasis, numerous exclamation marks. It feels like Dragunkin himself is yelling in your ear: TEACH! LET'S! YOU CAN! SALAG! I WILL SHOW YOU WHERE CANCER WINTER! - quite an amateur. A lot of PR of the author.

Fast English for energetic lazy people.

Author. Dragunkin A.

Another tutorial by Dragunkin. Like the previous one, it is largely different from the self-instruction manuals of other authors. Dragunkin promises wonders for fast, quality English learning. Of course, I doubt that everything will be so rosy, but the tutorial is not bad. As the only way to study it, I would not recommend it, but it will be very useful to read in addition to the same Petrova.

Advantages. Easy to read. In some places it is interesting, in some places even with humor, in some places even with a good one.

Flaws. I already wrote about them in the analysis of the previous tutorial. But this is the author's style, perhaps someone will like it.

Self-study guide of English. Systematic fundamental course.

Author. Komarov A.

The tutorial is focused on 2 levels: beginners or advanced. This tutorial implements the author's concept of teaching foreign languages. Moving from easy to difficult, you will be able to master English at a very decent level. The tutorial is simple and accessible. It is perfect for independent work even to those who do not know a single word of English.

Advantages. Parallel presentation of the material: you will study the syntax rules mixed with morphological rules - that is, this is a full-fledged textbook, not a reference book. Lots of diagrams, diagrams, useful graphics.

Flaws. There is no soundtrack.
