Which airport do the planes arrive to goa. Dabolim airport: online charter flights scoreboard

Goa has a single airport called Dabolim. Its abbreviated name is GOI (Goa International Airport). And even then, it's not quite tourist airport: Most of it belongs to the Indian Ministry of Defense. Today the air terminal has two terminals: Terminal 1 serves domestic flights, and Terminal 2 serves international flights.

Goa's "air gate" was built in the 1950s by the Portuguese (at that time the state was a Portuguese colony and was not part of India). But the struggle for Indian independence did its job - and in 1962 all of Goa (including the airport) was captured by the Indian military. Since that time, and until now Dabolim remains the property of the military forces of the Indian Republic, a military air unit called "Hansa" is located on its territory.

Travel time Moscow - Dabolim - approximately 7.5 hours.

Dabolim - military airport

Due to the fact that the airfield belongs to the Indian Air Force, military flight exercises are held daily from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the territory, and takeoffs and landings of civilian aircraft are prohibited, therefore all aircraft in Goa arrive either late in the evening, or at night, or early in the morning (before the beginning of the exercises of military fighters).

Once we got into a situation where ours was late with an arrival, because of which the departure was delayed by 4 hours. At this time, the airport runways were already occupied by military fighters, and about 300 people sat in the waiting room and watched in silence. We had to take off at 7 o'clock in the morning, but it turned out to take off only around 12 noon. We were lucky, and by some miracle our plane was allowed to take off between the takeoffs of Indian fighters (apparently, the lunch break happened). And we already expected to wait until the end of the working day.

Also, due to the military nature of the airport, a military man with a machine gun always stands at the entrance to it and checks the tickets of everyone who wants to enter. Therefore, everyone must have a printout of their electronic ticket, where the flight number and date are visible. Entry to the airport with a ticket is allowed no earlier than 4 hours before the departure of your aircraft.

Arrival to Dabolim

Upon arrival in India, all tourists are required to fill out an Arrival card, it is sometimes handed out on airplanes, but most often you have to take it already at Goa airport and fill it out at the counters, so we advise you to have your own pen with you (there are few pens on the counters, and wait for your turn to fill card takes a long time). The Arrival card contains standard information: arrival flight, departure date, in which hotel you will live, which cities you plan to visit.

This is what the Arrival Card looks like, which must be filled in by all foreign tourists.

After filling out the Arrival Card, you must go with it to the border control (if you have a pasted Indian visa in your passport) or to the Visa on Arrival counter (if you have issued an electronic visa, which is pasted into your passport upon arrival).

After passing the border control, we go to the baggage claim tape. Let's add a small one, so there are only two tapes. Local “helpers” are on duty at these bands around the clock, who are in a hurry to snatch the suitcase out of your hands in order to take it to a taxi, or to the operator's desk if you did not arrive on your own. They are dressed in some kind of uniform that makes them look like airport employees, in fact, this uniform is "left".

They know our main operators flying to Goa, so when a confused tourist hears: "Pegasus, let's go there," he is sure that this is an employee of the tour operator, whose duties include escorting tourists to the counter. In fact, this is an ordinary Indian, thus earning money. After you and him find the counter of your tour operator (or taxi), he will start asking you to pay for his services. They ask for a lot (according to eyewitnesses, from 5 dollars to 500 rupees), although they have to carry a suitcase no more than 50 meters.

There is currency exchange at the airport, but the rate is extremely unprofitable. Therefore, if you really need it urgently (for example, to pay for a taxi), exchange a small amount (no more than $ 50). But it is best to order a car at a prepaid taxi booth (government prepaid taxi) and tell the driver that you will pay later. In the window you will be given a piece of paper with a fixed price, and already being in your village, you will exchange dollars at a favorable rate and pay the driver. Taxi rates to different villages in Goa hang at the exit from the airport, so if the taxi driver starts to overcharge, you should not be encouraged. Taxi prices from the airport and the distance to popular tourist villages, we will give in this article, just below.

Counter of the state Prepaid taxi at Dabolim airport

In addition to currency exchange, you can use the ATMs located at the exit from the terminal: just withdraw money from your card. The ATM issues rupees, the conversion takes place inside the bank. The issuance fee for Indian ATMs is standard: 200 rupees. The commission for withdrawing money in your bank may be different: we have, for example, money from which you can withdraw money without commission anywhere in the world (provided that the withdrawal amount is at least 3000 rubles). Usually, we withdraw 10,000 rupees and pay 200 rupees for issue - it turns out 2% of the amount. The smaller the amount you withdraw, the less profitable it is.

It is worth considering that Indian ATMs work differently from Russian ones. They do not "swallow" the card - it must be inserted all the way and immediately pulled out: the ATM has already read all the necessary information. After the card is read and removed, you already enter the pin code, select the desired account and enter the required amount of issue.

Also at the exit to the city there is a sale of Indian SIM cards. It is extremely unprofitable to buy them here: they cost several times more expensive than in the villages of Goa, and in the event of a card malfunction, there will be no one to make a claim (you will not go to the airport by taxi for 1000 rupees to exchange a SIM card for 500).

There are no luggage storage rooms in Dabolim, so you won't be able to leave your luggage there while looking for accommodation.

It is worth considering that at night (from 23:00 to 05:00) another 35% is added to these rates. Also, a prepaid taxi takes another 10 rupees from each passenger for luggage.

Departure from Dabolim

About the fact that you can enter the terminal only by presenting to the military at the entrance your printed e-ticket, we have already said. What happens after you go inside?

When you leave Goa, your luggage is carefully checked, and then a yellow sticker is glued to the lock of your suitcase, which cannot be removed without damaging it. So they try to secure the flight (so that prohibited items are not put in the suitcase after the check). By the way, it is forbidden to carry any batteries in the luggage, we once did not let a children's suitcase pass because it contained a control panel for a car with batteries inside.

Lighters are also prohibited from carriage as in hand luggage, and in the luggage. Therefore, even souvenir lighters from India are also removed from suitcases.

This is the queue for check-in for the Goa-Samara flight turned out at 4 am

Passenger check-in at international departure counters at Dabolim airport

At Dabolim airport, the service of rewinding baggage with plastic film is available - it costs only 200 rupees... Compared to a similar service at Sheremetyevo, which costs 500 rubles - Indians ask for 2 times less.

We noticed another feature of the Goan airport: special tags are attached to all hand luggage. But this is not the most interesting thing - such tags are issued for hand luggage everywhere. But only at the Dabolim airport it will not work to bring hand luggage without tags on board: special stamps are put on these tags after checking the hand luggage on the scanner, and without these stamps you will not be allowed past customs control. At other airports, we often don't even attach the Cabin baggage tags at all - and we never had a problem.

In general, the Goa air harbor is small, there are many people, there are queues everywhere. Checking in luggage and passing through passport control takes an agonizingly long time, it is better to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours in advance (of course, if you are not traveling by an organized transfer from a tour operator).

Until about 2017, no one asked this question: fruits in special baskets in hand luggage were passed without problems, even if the basket was not the only element of hand luggage, but was an addition to it. In fairness, it should be said that according to the rules, the transportation of fruits in hand luggage was always prohibited, but no one paid such serious attention to it.

It was in such baskets that fruits were exported from Goa in hand luggage before.

At the end of 2017, for some reason, this rule began to be followed with special care: all fruit baskets were forced to check in luggage. But they did not take money for them, as for additional luggage.

Nevertheless, we witnessed how our enterprising Russian tourists still carried fruit baskets in their carry-on luggage: they simply did not show them when checking in their luggage, and were successfully able to carry them on board. The same tourists who asked the workers whether it was possible to carry IT and showed them to the baskets were forced to check them in.

It is worth saying that during our year in December 2017, all the baskets arrived safe and sound, they were not unloaded on a belt, but neatly brought all the baskets on a separate trolley and put them near the luggage belt.

Most of all, those tourists who were forced to hand over fruit baskets in their luggage worried that at the Russian border (according to rumors) half of the fruit was confiscated by workers, and only a small part of what they were carrying reaches the owners. In view of this, they diligently wrapped the baskets with duct tape. Did the scotch help us, or did the customs officers come across to us honest, but all the fruits checked in as luggage reached their owners in the same quantity as they were handed over.

Duty free and food courts at the airport

The duty-free zone in Dabolim is very, very modest (like in the Russian province). In fact, there is only one small shop with some alcohol and souvenirs, several fast food nooks with very expensive prices, and that's it.

On the right is the same fast food nook. There are no tables where you can eat and drink what you bought. Passengers eat in chairs.

Departure hall: the only mini-shop of duty-free can be seen in the distance, nothing about

When our flight was delayed by 4 hours, we had to buy expensive and tasteless (besides spicy) hamburgers at one of two food outlets in the departure area. There is no normal food here. Therefore, I can't even imagine how to feed the children here during long delay aircraft. I strongly advise, just in case, to stock up on some healthier food for children in advance.

Goan Airport from the runway side:

I have long dreamed of flying to Goa ... Arriving at the airport, Dabolim was even a little surprised: control and baggage claim took a minimum amount of time. Especially when compared with the registration that was waiting for me on the way back.

Believe it or not, I, like all other tourists, had to go through 5 circles of hell. Really, registration with all checks, introscopes, queues dragged on for 3 hours! Nerves, worries ... There were no traces of rest at the time of getting on the plane.

Since the airport is a military one, the inspection is strict here. I passed a similar check only at the Sharm airport. Just imagine, to enter the air harbor you must show a ticket. This is the first stage. Otherwise, there is no opportunity to enter the territory. The next, seemingly familiar procedure: baggage scanning. Well, there is only one device at the entrance. I had to stand in a kilometer-long queue in order to get a special sticker on things. Without her, I assure you that the luggage will not be accepted! With regard to registration, then this is more or less. Visa control, and generally passed not noticeably. At this point, I exhaled, but in vain. It turns out that dessert was waiting for me - inspection of hand luggage and me. Friends, I stood in line for more than an hour. This is something! I didn't like the airport:

  • work organization;
  • the need to arrive at the airport in advance;
  • not separated queues;
  • lack of pointers.

And finally, if you suddenly decide to have a snack at the airport, be prepared to pay 10% for the service.

Dabolim International Airport is the only air transport hub in the state of GOA. For many tourists wishing to go to this resort, the question arises: "Where is Dabolim airport?" The air transport hub is located near the village of Dabolim, Goa. The airport receives tourists from all over the world around the clock.

Most often, the guests of the airport are foreign tourists, rather than local residents. This is due to the fact that the cost of air tickets is not affordable for the population of GOA. The activities of the air transport hub are aimed at the implementation of tourist charter flights to different countries Europe and Asia.

GOA Dabolim airport

The terminal building was built in 1950. The area allotted for construction was 101 hectares. At that time, TAIP was based there. Until 1961, she carried out regular transportation to the nearest regions:

  • Daman;
  • Mozambique.

At the end of 1961, bombing began in India air force, as a result of which part of the buildings of the air transport hub were destroyed. In early 1962, three civil aircraft made an emergency flight to the neighboring region of Karachi. By 1962, the airfield was occupied by the aviation of the Indian naval forces. As a result, the airfield became the property of the Indians.

The first passengers of Dabolim airport

The first tourists to the airport in the early 1960s were Indian hippies.

The first route they followed was from Bombay. Permanent flights of civil aviation were launched only by 1966. The airline that operated the flights is Indian Airlines.

A little later, the air unit was fully adapted to receive aircraft with high jet thrust. However, it is worth noting that, both in the 60s and at the moment, for the majority of the local population, air travel is too expensive. Therefore, the basis of the aerodrome's activities is either charter flights or international flights.

Information about the Dabolim airport

In one year, Goa Airport receives on average about 90% of charter tourist flights. The airport's passenger turnover on international routes is about 150-200 thousand tourists. However, if we consider the passenger turnover of this airfield against the background the total tourists visiting India, the number is 5-10%. The main emphasis on the operation of the terminal for international flights falls on night and morning hours. During this period, passenger planes arrive from the following countries:

The total number of tourists visiting Goa in one year is estimated at 101,000 from the UK and 42,000 from Russia. On average, the total number of charter flights from Moscow reaches 240 flights per year.

Terminal layout and infrastructure description

GOA Airport consists of one modern terminal equipped with several levels.

One of these levels serves exclusively international flights. In addition, flights to the following domestic routes fly from the air hub:

  • Delhi;
  • Mumbai;
  • Lucknow;
  • Nakpur and other major cities in India.

To date, more than 700 different flights are operated from the air transport hub. If you consider the GOA Dabolim airport on the map , it can be determined that it is located 26 kilometers from the state capital of Panaji. About 2/3 of the flights have the “charter” status. The new terminal building was opened in 2014. On the territory there are 12 escalators for luggage and about 15 elevators to move around the different levels of the terminal. From 2014 to the present, about 4 million people a year have passed through the new terminal. The terminal consists of three levels:

  1. The first level or Ground floor is located on the ground floor. Registration is made there for domestic and foreign destinations. The baggage drop-off point is also on the lower level.
  2. The first floor includes an arrivals hall for domestic and international flights. Airport security post, check-in counters for international destinations and a customs post.
  3. On the second floor there are various cafes and souvenir shopsas well as a security point for domestic and international destinations.

Services provided at the airport

Unfortunately, despite the developed infrastructure of the airport, the quantity and quality of services rendered differs sharply for the worse than in European air terminals. Very often you hear from tourists negative reviews that the airport is not properly equipped.

  1. The Dabolim airport website (online scoreboard) does not always display flight status information in real time. Link to the website: https://rasp.yandex.ru/station/9624933/?start\u003d2018-02- 6T22% 3A34% 3A35 & from \u003d wraspstatus & event \u003d departure.
  2. The baggage wrapping counter is located at level zero, in the baggage check-in area. Please note that the administration is not responsible for the safety of things left at the airport. The cost of packing one baggage will cost 300 rupees, which is about $ 5. Do not leave any items of light fire (prohibited for carriage) in your luggage. During security screening, an airport employee will ask you to remove them from your bag.
  3. The mother and child room works around the clock and is ready to receive passengers with children under 2 years old. It is fully equipped with everything a young mother and baby may need.
  4. You can exchange currency at the exchange office located on the first level of the airport terminal.
  5. You can have a snack while waiting for your flight in a specially designated cafe. It is located next to the international waiting room. In addition, there are small vending machines with various snacks throughout the entire airline complex.
  6. Unfortunately, free Wi-Fi services are not available at the airport. However, you can connect to the internet for a fee. Internet Service Provider - TataIndicom.

Luggage storage services for passengers of the VIP service zone are not provided at this airport. In addition, most experienced tourists are advised to beware of the local service offered, as most locals try to enrich themselves at the expense of ordinary people. Some services at the airport are overpriced.

Parking at the airport

The airport has a parking lot for 500 parking spaces, the building is located on several levels. The cost of parking from 2 hours will cost you 85 rupees, which is about 1.5 dollars. In front of the parking building there is a bus stop for public transport.

Hotels near the airport

There are no hotels located on the territory of the air transport hub, however, within a radius of several kilometers, you can find a place to sleep:

  1. Village Club Goa is located 9 kilometers from the airport. In addition to cozy rooms, guests can enjoy a Turkish hammam and a spa center. Each room has Wi-Fi, minibar and TV. The hotel managers are happy to offer you an excursion program. Restaurants and bars are located throughout the hotel.

How to get from the city to GOA Dabolim airport

Since the location of the airport is located 26 kilometers from the capital of Goa, most tourists get to their destination by a fast and comfortable form of transport - a transfer or taxi.

  1. The taxi ride will take about 30-40 minutes. The cost of the trip will cost you from 700 rupees. The price is high, but the trip will be made with maximum comfort. Remember that it is better not to use the services of street taxi drivers. Their price is very high. There is an official taxi stand at the airport. Make an order in « Taxi GOA»Call: + 91 832 222 89 89.
  2. On the official website of GOA Dabolim airport there is information about the transfer. This type of transportation is the fastest. In addition, customers have the opportunity to pre-order the class of transport suitable for the number of passengers. When booking a car, you can find out the cost of the trip. The advantage of the transfer is that the driver will make a personal meeting near the car with a sign.

What to do if your flight is canceled

If the flight is canceled more than 24 hours before departure, then passengers are transferred to similar flights of the airline. The costs are borne by the carrier, the service is free for the passenger. If none of the options offered by the airline suits you, most airlines can issue a "forced return". After confirmation by the airline, the money will be returned to your account. It can sometimes take several weeks.

How to check in at the airport

Online check-in is available on the websites of most airlines. Most often it opens 23 hours before the start of the flight. You can pass it no later than 1 hour before the departure of the plane.

To check in at the airport you will need:

    • the identity card specified in the order,
    • birth certificate when flying with children,
    • printed itinerary receipt (optional).
  • What you can take with you on the plane

Carry-on baggage is items that you take with you on board the aircraft. The allowance for the weight of hand luggage can vary from 5 to 10 kg, and its size most often should not exceed the sum of three dimensions (length, width and height) from 115 to 203 cm (depending on the airline). Ladies' bag is not carry-on baggage and can be carried freely.

The bag that you take with you on the plane must not contain knives, scissors, medicines, aerosols, cosmetics... Alcohol from duty free shops can only be carried in sealed bags.

How to pay for baggage at the airport

If the baggage weight exceeds the norms established by the airline (most often - 20-23 kg), you need to pay for each kilogram of excess weight. In addition, many Russian and foreign airlines, as well as low-cost airlines, have tariffs that do not include free baggage allowance and must be paid separately as an additional service.

In this case, baggage must be checked in at the airport at a separate Drop-off check-in counter. If you are unable to print your boarding pass, you can get it at the airline's regular check-in counter, and check in and drop off your baggage there.

Where to find out the arrival time if you are a greeter

You can find out the time of arrival of the aircraft on the airport's online scoreboard. The Tutu.ru website has an online scoreboard of the main Russian and foreign airports.

You can find out the number of the exit (gate) on the arrival board at the airport. This number is located next to the inbound flight information.

Perhaps all travelers hungry for adventure sooner or later find themselves in the most picturesque state of India - Goa. To help tourists, I collected the most useful information on how to get to Goa from Russia and other cities in India, as well as from Goa Dabolim airport to the steepest beaches and resort towns of North and South Goa.

How to get to Goa from Russia?

  • During the season (from November to May), direct charter flights of Nordwind Airlines, Transaero, UTair and others from Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk fly to Goa. The cost of an air ticket for a direct flight Moscow - Goa is from $ 290 in two directions.
  • There are no direct flights to Goa from Russia during the off-season. You can fly from Moscow to Delhi with a regular Aeroflot or Transaero flight, and then change to a train or plane to Goa. The cost of an air ticket for a direct flight Moscow - Delhi - from $ 146. In addition, there is an option to buy a flight from Moscow to Mumbai at a price of $ 212 in two directions, from where it is much closer to get to Goa than from Delhi.

How to get to Goa from other cities in India?

If you flew to Delhi or Mumbai, then you can get to Goa in the following ways. The distance from Delhi to Goa is 1880 km, from Mumbai to Goa - 604 km.

Train to Goa from Mumbai and Delhi

  • From Delhi, trains to Goa depart from New Delhi and H. Nizamuddin railway stations. Travel time is 27.5 hours. The ticket price is $ 28.
  • From Mumbai, trains to Goa leave from Mumbai Cst train station. Travel time is 8 hours. The ticket price is $ 10.

Trains in Goa from Mumbai and Delhi railway stations arrive at Vasco da Gama railway station, Thivim in North Goa and Margao (Madgaon) in South Goa. From these stations, you can take a bus to the city of your choice, or go to the state capital Panjim and change to another bus.

You can buy a train ticket at different classes wagons. The most sold out is the sleepper, which is full of Indians, and where I would not advise tourists to climb. If you decide to travel by train, tickets can be booked on Cleartrip.com. The names of the train passengers must be checked on a special notice board before boarding the train, and then also at the carriage door. I would not recommend that girls travel alone in India by train, since in India there are frequent cases of rape of tourists, and the carriages on the trains are common here, and you never know with whom you will sit not only on the next one - on a common shelf (due to the lack of space people are often sold the same berth on trains).

Important! When traveling long distances in India, make sure that the ticket office does not sell you a ticket with a WL (Waiting list) mark. This means that tickets for this train are sold out and you are put on a waiting list in case someone cancels their ticket. With this ticket there is a chance to leave, but you can also be left with nothing.

Bus to Goa from Mumbai and Delhi

  • Buses run from Mumbai to Goa very often. Travel time to Goa is 15-16 hours. The ticket price is $ 4.5 - 23. There are many places for passengers to board a bus to Goa in Mumbai (about 222 departure points), all of them are indicated on the website.
  • There is no direct bus to Goa from Delhi. You will need to first fly to the city of Pune, and then take a direct bus to Goa. The cost of a Delhi - Pune air ticket is $ 137 round trip. The bus from Pune to Goa departs from the Pune Railway station or from the Swargate stop. Travel time to Goa is 10-15 hours. Ticket price - $ 5.3 - 18.

Buses in Goa come to the city of Mapsa (Mapusa) - the largest bus hub in the resort. The bus schedule and prices can be viewed on the Makemytrip website and book a bus ticket there. On the same site, it is very convenient to plan travel routes in India by bus, train, plane in the Route Planner tab. If you do not buy your ticket online, you can purchase one from Travel agencies near the bus stations.

Airplane to Goa from Mumbai and Delhi

It is most convenient if you arrived in big City India, get to Goa by plane. Air ticket Delhi - Goa will cost you from $ 148 in two directions; Mumbai - Goa - from $ 68 in two directions.

We figured out how to get to Goa, and now we will get acquainted with the Goa airport and how to get from Goa airport to the resort towns of the state.

Goa Airport Brief

There is only one airport in Goa, it is located in the city of Dabolim, which is why it got its name - Dabolim Airport. The nearest city from the airport - Vasco da Gama is located 5 km from it. The state capital, Panaji, is located 30 km from the airport. The airport's passenger turnover is over 4.5 million passengers per year. The airport is actually located on the border of North and South Goa. For the convenience of your orientation, I attach below a map of the state of Goa with the main attractions and hotels.

Goa Airport used to be a miserable sight, and the renovations of its international terminal were constantly being pushed back. However, since March 2014, a new modern terminal with three levels has been opened at the airport instead of the two old terminals. The new terminal serves both domestic and international flights... Despite the fact that chaos reigns at the airport at times, it was even worse before, so we are glad that we have.

This is how the old terminal of the Dabolim airport looked like.

And this is how a new modern terminal looks like.

Bus + train from Dabolim airport to railway station in North and South Goa

There are 3 train stations in the airport area: Vasco da Gama, Sankval and Dabolim. To get to these train stations, you need to take a local bus at the airport. The buses do not have numbers, and their route is indicated on a plate on the windshield. The ticket is bought directly from the driver. The fare is $ 0.15-0.23.

The largest of these stations is the Vasco da Gama train station, located 5 km from the airport. From the railway stations you can reach the Thivim railway station in North Goa and Madgaon in South Goa. Already there you will need to change to a bus to your city / beach. This is an extremely uncomfortable way of getting around, as you already understood.

Distance from Dabolim airport to Margao is 26 km, from Dabolim airport to Thivim - 46 km.

I want to warn you right away that trains and buses in India are almost always jam-packed. You've probably seen pictures on the Internet where people are literally sitting on top of each other on the train. Now, in India, this is exactly how it is. You can only get on the train if you buy a ticket in advance. You will hardly be able to buy a train ticket at the ticket office before departure. Trains in India are almost always late and can hardly be called a reliable mode of transport. Therefore, I would not recommend using them if time is running out and you need to be in time to your destination by a certain time.

Shuttle bus from Goa airport to resorts

This option is available to you if you are staying in Goa at one of the hotels that provide a free airport transfer. I strongly recommend that you use a taxi service to quickly and comfortably get from Goa airport to your destination in both North and South Goa: Karwar, Anjuna, Ponda, Mapusa, Betalbatim, Calangute, Candolim, Vagator, Panaji. A Russian taxi, which is available, will take you at a fixed price to almost anywhere in the state of Goa and to other cities in India if necessary.

Taxis are inexpensive and, in my opinion, are a great alternative to the unstable Indian public transport. You don't have to bounce around in an unsanitary crowd of Indians, or take the risk of traveling by bus in the evening or at night: the crime rate in India is very high. If you are traveling with a company, a taxi ride will cost you even less.

If you take a taxi to the locals, you will be ready to bargain, because their first reaction to a foreigner is to inflate the price of the trip at times.
