Eilat

Most south airport in the country, located directly in the tourist city of Eilat, close to the highway and hotels. From here you can get to Haifa and Tel Aviv quite quickly. It is a duty-free zone.

Serves all types of flights for which a too short runway is not a hindrance.

Does not accept flights from Russia.

Story

It was built at the end of the Arab-Israeli War in 1949 in order to connect with other cities of Israel (initially Tel Aviv and Haifa).

In 1960, a terminal for passengers was built, and in 1975 the first flight abroad was made. 1980 marked the airport with the beginning of flights to Europe.

In the future, it is planned to end the operation of the airport and completely replace it with Ramon.

Peculiarities

The airport's small size (only two parking spaces) and short GDP of 1,900 km greatly limit the amount of air transport and model that Eilat can accommodate.

Has only one terminal.

Transport

Due to the fact that it is located in the city, it has no problems with transport - you can get out of Haifa by taxi, bus, minibus, etc.

Haifa Airport, also known as Uri Michael Airport (one of the first Israeli pilots), for the most part accepts domestic flights throughout the country (often to Eilat or Tel Aviv). Sometimes it carries out military air transportation.

Located in the eastern part of the city of Haifa, next to the Israeli shipyards and the local port of Kishon on the Mediterranean Sea.

It does not operate flights from Russia; to get to the city, you will need one or more transfers (for example, in Greece, Cyprus, and so on).

Story

The airport was completed in 1936 by Britain and was used for international traffic until the Second World War. With the outbreak of hostilities, it was closed to civilian air travel and began serving the British army.

With Israel gaining independence, he again switched to civil aviation.

It received international status in 1994, but its serious development occurred only with the beginning of the new millennium. Today, the airport in Haifa is planned to be expanded.

Peculiarities

One terminal, minimal service - a couple of snack bars and souvenir shops. However, a duty-free zone is expected to open at the airport in the near future.

Transport

Standard – regular buses and taxis.

An airport under construction in the Timna Valley in the southern part of the country, which should replace Eilat and accommodate all civil air traffic at Ovda Airport. Ramon should also become a backup for Ben Gurion Airport, the largest airport in Israel, and act in the event of emergency. Great expectations are placed on him as a medical tourism and related package deals.

Its location is 18 km from Eilat.

Story

Ramon Airport should become a replacement for Eilat, which over time has become an obstacle to the development of the city in the center of which it is located.

The idea of relocating the airport was expressed in the mid-1990s after the signing of the Israel-Jordan Peace Treaty, but actual plans were only approved in 2003. A more thorough design was reviewed in 2010. Construction was approved in 2011 and began two years later.

In early September 2017, Ramon conducted its first test flight.

Peculiarities

Ramon is scheduled major airport, capable of accepting all types aircraft. Its GDP should be 3600 m with a width of 45 m. There will be 8 parking spaces for large airliners, and 9 for turbine propellers.

Ramon's preliminary area is 5.5 square meters. km, terminal – 50 thousand sq. m.

Transport

Very soon, next to the airport and hotel center there will be a 27-kilometer line with a high-speed tram, stretching to the border. In 2012, planning also began for a new Tel Aviv–Eilat railway line and therefore a train station in Ramona.

All this, coupled with the fact that the airport was originally located next to the highway, makes it one of the most accessible transportation points.
