The successes of such a gifted teenager could not go unnoticed. At the age of 14, Gamova was enrolled in the professional team Metar, "and two years later she was already holding in her hands her first serious award - the Cup of Russia. It should be noted that Catherine did not forget about education either. In 2004, the athlete received a diploma from the Ural State Academy of Physical Culture, and later also graduated from the Russian State Social University, where she comprehended the science of journalism.
In 1998, Ekaterina Gamova was invited to one of the best Russian clubs, the Yekaterinburg Uralochka. The honor of this invitation was also in the fact that the team was coached by the coach of the Russian national team Nikolai Karpol. Here, for the first time, a volleyball player became a medalist and winner of the national championship. The girl also performed excellently at international competitions.

At the beginning of 2017, Ekaterina Gamova was appointed curator of the Russian women's junior teams and assistant coach of the Russian U18 national team. "I'm leaving no later and not earlier"
- Ekaterina, is it sad to realize that you are ending your career?
Not really. I do not see anything sad in this, for me this is a pleasant time. Even this farewell match I perceive as a holiday: a holiday for me, for the fans who will see the game of the two best teams in the country. I am overwhelmed with only positive emotions.

- You haven't played for a very long time, almost half a year. Can you show your level in the game with the volleyball players of the national team?
All this time, I did not stop working out in the gym, I kept in shape. I think that not everything is so critical. Let's hope that we will play "fresh".
In 2010, Dynamo Kazan had carte blanche to sign players of the highest level. They waited for one thing - will Gamow cross? Negotiations went on for more than six months, and when the contract was signed, literally within a week other stars of national volleyball came to the club. A team was built around Catherine the Great. And they did not lose: five won Russian championships in a row, two Russian Cups, the World Club Championship and the Champions League - all these trophies have been won since the 2010/2011 season.
- Do you think you decided to end your career early? Or maybe they delayed it?
It seems to me that I am leaving no later and not earlier. Everything has its time. In principle, I did not plan to continue playing, but the main reason was my injury, which tormented me in recent years. Is there a chance that I will change my mind? 0%. In recent years, I got used to the fact that in the summer I have a vacation, and in the fall a new season begins, training resumes and I re-enter the regime. I thought that this time in the fall, too, it would start “breaking”, but nothing of the kind - I don’t want to play.
Dynamo Kazan and the pink contract
- Do you remember how you ended up at Dynamo Kazan?
Then I had the option of moving to Kazan or Krasnodar. Sergei Nikolaevich (Chernyshov, director of ZhVK "Dynamo-Kazan" - author's note) immediately won me over, we found a common language. “Ask what you want, even a pink contract,” he joked then. Well, I was joking, so all my contracts with Dynamo in the end were printed on pink paper - such a tradition that emerged from a joke.
Of course, at that moment I did not go anywhere. As an athlete, I looked at the players who were on the team, I looked at the coach. It was with him that I really wanted to work.

Unrealized dream
During her long career, Ekaterina Gamova has won all the team and individual awards that were possible. Except for one - she never won the Olympic gold. Twice she was close to him, but in 2000 in Sydney and in 2004 in Athens, the Russian national team lost in the final.
- Is there any regret that you never won Olympic gold?
You know, no. I consider my career to be very successful, but I cannot be upset that I do not have one medal. If earlier I said that I would give everything for the gold of the Olympics, now I have a completely different opinion.
- Do you want to try your hand at being a coach?
No. I will not be a coach, or a deputy, or a sports journalist, and I am not going to the cinema either. Life is very bright and multifaceted, there are many different directions in which I would try myself. I will definitely not go to cinema and politics. Show Business? This is quite interesting and familiar to me. If before I could not devote a lot of time to such events, now I have plenty of it. Out of the ordinary, this winter I plan to finally start downhill skiing.

- Is it difficult to reorganize to a normal life after sports?
I have my own things to do, plans. A lot of filming and interviews, I go to fitness. It turns out that I still have almost every day planned out. It is clear that it is a completely different matter, but still. I want to make the house comfortable and, in general, do all those simple and ordinary things that are inherent in ordinary women.
Volleyball after Gamova
Ekaterina sits at a press conference surrounded by huge cups - all those awards that she won with the team. Over the years, she has played at the highest level, being the real face, the brand of the entire world volleyball. In previous years, injuries miraculously bypassed her, but after all, sport is, first of all, physical activity, which simply could not sooner or later not make itself felt.
So Gamova's body began to malfunction more and more often, for the entire last season, Gamow healed a knee injury more than she played ... But the decision turned out to be firm and instead of leaving to finish the game abroad, Gamova decided to open her own volleyball school.
“It was my idea to create Gamova's school and I am very glad that they went to see me. Of course, now I will spend most of my time in Moscow - after all, I and my whole family have been living in this city for the last 12 years. I understand that it is not enough just to name the school by your name, so I will try to come to Kazan as often as possible, communicate with the girls who will study there, conduct master classes and help in every way. Of course, they will have a coach, but I would also like to take part in this as far as possible. "Gamow leaves volleyball, but her name is forever inscribed in the history of this sport. Last season, Dynamo Kazan did not win a single trophy, and changes are coming in the Russian team. Is there life after Gamova? Of course! Apart from this school in Kazan, with her career, her outstanding game and attitude to business, she has already led a huge number of children from all over the country to volleyball, who grew up following her example. This is probably why she is Catherine the Great - not so much because of all these cups and medals, but for what she did for her sport.
By the way, Dynamo Kazan decided to withdraw Gamova's number from circulation. Now a jersey with her name and number 11 will be displayed under the arches of the local volleyball center.
The father of the famous volleyball player left her pregnant mother and never saw her daughter

On Friday they signed, then accepted gifts at a restaurant in Strogino. On Saturday, August 18, we walked at the wedding of Katina's friend, a volleyball player Olesya Makhno... And on Sunday, the newlyweds arranged for their guests a continuation of the banquet on the yacht. They gathered everyone in Serebryany Bor. We organized a fiery volleyball match. Boys against girls. All were dressed in T-shirts and shorts. Even Mikhail's parents - Svetlana Druzhinina and Anatoly Mukasey... Mishin's dad, by the way, was rooting for the girls, and Svetlana Sergeevna - for the son's team. Mikhail, by the way, is also very athletic, pumped up, he also studied at a children's and youth sports school. The men's team was forbidden to jump, put defense. Therefore, the girls won with a score of 2: 1. Svetlana Druzhinina has organized an excellent support group. And she was the brightest and most active participant in it.
On Sunday, by the way, her other friend, a volleyball player, also played a wedding. Goncharova Katya... But she, however, officially signed it back in winter, just in the summer they staged a celebration. - Probably, they gave gorgeous gifts?- Sending invitations to the wedding to the guests, Misha and Katya made a postscript, they say, we ask you to give something that is no more than a dollar and a euro. The hint is this ... Therefore, most friends and relatives presented them with envelopes with money as a gift. And me too. After the wedding, the newlyweds went on their honeymoon to Nice. Some of the funds will be spent there. The most extraordinary of the presentations was a painting measuring 3 by 2.5 meters. It was presented to Misha by friends. The canvas depicts Katya in full growth with a volleyball net and Mikhail sitting next to him. The gift touched the newlyweds to tears. - Katya earns good money. But, of course, Svetlana Sergeevna and her husband Anatoly Mikhailovich spoke best of all - they have a gift! It’s immediately obvious that the directors - I don’t know how to speak fluently. They said that they liked Katya as soon as they saw her on the screen. Svetlana Sergeevna and Anatoly Mikhailovich, in their youth, also played volleyball and were captains of the national teams at VGIK, so they followed volleyball. So they fell in love with Katya long before they met her.

Not anytime soon. Katya has a contract with Dynamo Kazan - she has another year to play for them, plus she still remains in the Russian national team. And after her honeymoon, she already has a busy training schedule. - But Mikhail has two children from his first marriages - Maxim and Liza. It was thanks to the simultaneously complex and romantic profession of his parents that Mikhail Mukasey, as a child, sat on the lap of his uncle Theodore (American writer Theodore Dreiser) and Uncle Charlie (actor and director Charlie Chaplin) - then his parents worked in Los Angeles at the consulate Soviet Union and were friends with many Hollywood celebrities.

Svetlana Druzhinina and Anatoly Mukasey now have three grandchildren from two sons: Daniel - from the elder Anatoly and Maxim and Liza - from the younger Mikhail.
