Already the first calculations have shown that the cost of such a universal ship may not meet in a reasonable framework. In this regard, Congress insisted on closing one of the programs. According to the results of the analysis, it was decided to abandon CG (X cruisers) and focus all efforts on the creation of destroyers. Thus, after the write-off of all cruisers like Ticonderoga in the US Navy as multipurpose ships with rocket weapons, ARLEIGH BURKE and DD (X) was assumed.

For financial reasons, one project was closed, and soon began problems with the second. The full fulfillment of the requirements of the customer, according to the calculations, was to lead to a significant increase in the cost of design work and the construction of ships. It was originally planned to build 32 destroyers of a new type. However, the assessment of their cost and budget capabilities led to several contractions of the planned series. A few years ago, Congress cuts allocations for the destroyer "Zuzyvolt" to the level sufficient for the construction of only three ships. It is worth noting that after that there were proposals to complete the construction of a head destroyer and close the too expensive project, but the Pentagon was able to defend three ships. It should also be noted that by the time of the start of design work on the ZUMWALT project, the requirements were changed towards simplification. Because of this, an existing promising project has several large differences from the planned DD (X).

Preparation for the construction of the head ship DDG-1000 began in the fall of 2008, and the bookmark ceremony took place in November 2011. At the end of October 2013, the first destroyer of the new project was launched. Preliminary work on the construction of the Case of the Second Ship DDG-1001 (USS Michael Monsoor) started in September 2009 at the Ingalls Shipbuilding Plant. According to their combat capabilities, promising ships should also exceed existing cruisers and destroyers. The refusal to the CG (X) program led to the transfer of some functions previously assigned to the cruiser. But here is the paradox: according to the author, a decisive role in the question of the classification of a new ship was not technical characteristics and not tactics, but features of English-speaking terminology. You can even say the fault of all linguistics. I will try to explain.
