The warm season allows you to spend as much time as possible outside the city - go out for a few days and spend the night outdoors, in a car or in a tent. At the same time, you need to eat even when traveling by car, and eat well, especially when traveling with children.

Today we will discuss how to calculate the amount of food, what products to take with us outdoors, what utensils we might need, and also what we can cook outdoors. I will offer a small but practical menu option for feeding three people outdoors.

Considering that we are all autotourists, and we don’t need to carry the entire grocery set in a backpack, the only limitation for us is the size of the trunk, into which, in addition to things, we also need to put food.

What utensils can be useful when traveling by car?

Let me make a reservation right away: when we go on a camping trip into nature, especially far outside the city, where there are no cafes or shops, we always cook ourselves. We do not use a fire for cooking.

Accordingly, I always have with me in the car:

1. Camping gas stove and a decent supply of gas cylinders

Do not try to save on gas stoves and gas cylinders. Cheap Chinese tiles tend to break quickly at the most inopportune moment. The tile is good quality It will last you two to three years with active use, and 5-6 years with infrequent use. When purchasing gas cylinders, also try to look at both the manufacturer and the gas category (summer/winter). We try to take either Pathfinder or Kovea gas.

I take a supply of cylinders something like this: one cylinder per day when preparing breakfast and dinner, plus two or three spare ones. That is, for a trip of three days, five cylinders of gas are enough. If you are not sure about the quality of the gas cylinder, and are afraid that you will not have enough, take a little more gas for the first trip.

2. Set of dishes

  1. a saucepan with a lid for 2.5 - 3 liters, I use aluminum, it’s easier to clean;
  2. frying pan with a lid, I use a normal Teflon frying pan. By the way, a little advice for washing a Teflon frying pan outdoors: buy several rolls of ordinary paper towels, and after cooking, while the frying pan is still not completely cool, wipe it with a dry paper towel several times. They are great for removing grease and scrubbing the pan. No cleaning products are needed;
  3. a kettle (you can, of course, boil tea in a saucepan, but, firstly, the saucepan may be busy, and secondly, we are used to having a camp kettle);
  4. several plastic salad bowls with lids;
  5. disposable tableware (deep and flat plates). We take packages at a time (50 pieces each) - enough for several trips;
  6. metal mugs, the number of mugs is equal to the number of family members;
  7. plastic cups, 10 pieces, just in case;
  8. ladle, slotted spoon, wooden spatula, corkscrew, knife opener, metal forks and spoons in quantity, equal members families. You can take disposable forks and spoons, but for cooking, for example, stirring soup, it is more convenient to use metal spoons. Definitely a knife. I find it more convenient to use the regular one kitchen knife, although you can get by with a penknife;
  9. cutting board. It will be useful to cut bread, cut salad, and cut up meat and fish.

All dishes are neatly placed in a plastic container with a lid. This is very convenient: everything is in one place, you don’t have to look all over the car.

If you're traveling with a dog, add a couple of dog bowls to your dinnerware set.

3. Table. Regular tourist table

Of course, not every car will fit a set of camping furniture. But a table, or at least a straight surface on which you can safely place a gas stove, without the risk of it falling, and simply lay out food for cooking outdoors, is a must.

4. Two to three kitchen towels

It’s very helpful to wipe your hands, take a hot pan, and wipe the washed dishes. A few rolls of paper towels serve essentially the same purpose. Moreover, a used paper towel burns well in a fire.

5. Garbage bags

I can't stand garbage dumps in nature. Therefore, we always take our garbage, that which is not burned, no matter how far we are, to the nearest garbage can. The larger and tighter the garbage bags you take with you, the less likely there is for garbage to leak in your car...

Basic rules for creating a food package for going outdoors

For me, there are only three rules for creating a grocery set:

First. Drinking water there must be a lot. The hotter it is outside, the more drinking water you should have.

Second. The hotter it is outside, the less perishable food we take with us.

Third. Do not bring more food, especially perishable food, than you can eat.

What products do we take outdoors?

Each family has its own set of products, but for us, for a family of three, the standard set of products looks something like this:

  1. Canned food: meat, fish, pates. I take two cans per day of travel. Pate - one jar for two days.
  2. Buckwheat grain, pasta. Based on one pack for two days (even if it remains, the product will be stored for a very long time)
  3. Potatoes, onions. At the rate of approximately one average bucket per week, plus a dozen onions per week.
  4. Bread, cookies, muffins, etc. for tea. Bread - half a loaf for one day, everything else - to taste.
  5. Several bags of soup instant cooking. As a rule, one sachet per day.
  6. Drinking water. As a rule, five liters per day. It is better to take rectangular 10-liter canisters and pour water into them yourself. But store-bought 5-liter bottles are also convenient.
  7. Tea, coffee, sugar, condensed milk. As a rule, one medium pack of bagged tea and a jar of coffee is enough. It is better to keep a small plastic container with a tight-fitting lid for sugar. As practice shows, plastic bags with sugar break at the most inopportune moment, and the paper box falls apart on the third or fourth day of the journey.
  8. Salt, various seasonings (for meat, fish, etc.), soda. It is more convenient to take salt in a plastic package with a dispenser. The amount of seasoning depends on what you plan to cook.
  9. Eggs, milk with a long shelf life. I take a dozen eggs in a package. If it’s cool outside and we’re going for a long time, we sometimes buy two dozen eggs. If you take eggs in bulk, place them in a salad bowl with a lid, after wrapping them in a towel, so that the eggs do not come into contact with each other or with the walls of the salad bowl. Milk - two liters.
  10. A small bag of flour. You can also cook pancakes, and if fishing is successful, fry fish in flour. As a rule, one kilogram is enough.
  11. Sunflower oil (it’s better to take it in a low bottle - it’s easier to store). Half a liter is enough.
  12. Sausage (preferably raw smoked or cervelat), possibly sausages or small sausages (if the weather is not hot, and provided that they will be eaten within 24 hours). About one large stick of cervelat for three days.
  13. Possibly frozen meat or chicken fillet, also provided that it will be cooked and eaten within 24 hours
  14. Cheese, processed cheese. Depends on how much cheese you eat.
  15. Mayonnaise, ketchup. We also use sour cream if we plan to eat it within 24 hours.
  16. Fresh vegetables, salad greens. I take about ten cucumbers and the same number of tomatoes. Enough for three days. They don't live any longer.
  17. Some plastic bottles With mineral water(especially in hot weather). You should not take soda and juices - on the contrary, they increase thirst.
  18. Several five-liter bottles with regular drinking water. At the rate of five liters per day.

A little advice for extending the safety of food taken on a trip: if you stop at a pond, fill it with a bucket of water, pack the perishable food in a plastic bag, and put it in a bucket of water. The bucket definitely needs to be kept in the shade. The hotter it is outside, the more often it is necessary to change the water in the bucket (as it heats up).

Just as in the case of dishes, it is more convenient to place the products that you take with you into nature in plastic containers with lids. It's best to pack food in different containers, separating them into perishables and grocery items. long term storage For example, canned food, salt, cereals and pasta, seasonings, and sunflower oil will fit perfectly in one container.

To calculate the amount of necessary products for a good outdoor recreation, you need to think about what and how often you will cook

I repeat once again: if it’s very hot outside, we don’t take perishable food!

The first day

Part of the first day, as a rule, is spent on the road to the resting place. Depending on how much time it takes to travel, and also taking into account the fact that at home you can not only have breakfast, but also prepare food for the first day of travel:

Breakfast: We have breakfast at home.

Dinner.
For lunch (snack on the road), I boil a few eggs for the road (two pieces per person), boil potatoes (also two potatoes per person), fry chicken fillet or lean meat, one medium piece at a time. While still warm, I pack the potatoes and chicken (or meat) into a small plastic food container and carefully wrap them in foil. I'm making some sandwiches. I also take with me a few apples/bananas/pears, etc. I take a thermos with tea.

Dinner.
We prepare dinner outdoors (at a vacation spot). Since I didn’t have a full lunch during the day, I made soup in the evening.
Salad: cucumbers, tomatoes, greens, dressing sunflower oil(or sour cream). If I didn’t finish the eggs on the way, I also crumble them into the salad. Soup: I use a packet of instant soup to make it. First, I peel and boil the potatoes, when the potatoes boil, I add the stew (crush it with a fork), when the potatoes are almost ready, I add a packet of soup (look on the package for how to cook them). For three people, one liter of water and four to five medium potatoes are enough for soup.

Summary, products for the first day:

  • six boiled eggs;
  • six boiled potatoes;
  • three pieces of fried meat;
  • several apples/bananas/pears...;
  • can of stew;
  • a bag of instant soup;
  • sunflower oil and salt.

Second day

Breakfast.
A morning in nature will be remembered for a long time if you start it with pancakes!
We bake pancakes for breakfast. Condensed milk or a small jar of jam or jam is quite suitable for pancakes.

Dinner.
Definitely soup. Cook potatoes with canned fish. I add the fish when the potatoes are almost cooked. This soup cooks very quickly.
You can additionally make a salad from fresh vegetables.

Dinner.
We make salad and pasta with stew. Some housewives first boil the pasta, then throw it into a colander, then put it in a frying pan and add the stew.

Cooking in nature can be much easier: take an aluminum pan, pour enough water into it so that when the pasta is lowered, they are completely covered with water. Cook the pasta until half cooked, then add the stew, crushed with a fork. Cook the noodles: bring them to the usual “semi-dry” state. And immediately serve it on the table.

Summary, products for the second day:

  • a liter of milk, flour, two eggs, salt, sugar, soda;
  • condensed milk;
  • two cucumbers, two tomatoes, a bunch of greens;
  • four to five potatoes for soup;
  • can of canned fish;
  • can of canned meat;
  • a bag of pasta;
  • sunflower oil and salt.

Day three

Breakfast.
Scrambled eggs with sausage (servelat).

Dinner.
Salad and potatoes with stew.

We have dinner at home.

Summary, products for the third day:

  • three to four eggs;
  • a few slices of cervelat;
  • two cucumbers, two tomatoes, a bunch of greens;
  • five to six potatoes for soup;
  • can of canned meat;
  • sunflower oil (in salad) and salt.

In fact, it doesn’t take much time to cook outdoors. And this process is not a burden. Moreover, the family can help with cooking.

If the vacation involves active walking, then instead of lunch we make sandwiches with us, and in the evening we definitely eat soup.

The choice of products for going out into nature, or on a long road trip, depends only on your preferences. But I hope my tips will help you wisely prepare your supplies for a great trip.

List:

  1. Tent. For a good outdoor recreation, you will need a tent if you are not with a car. Or if all the vacationers cannot fit in the car.
  2. Inflatable mattress or karimat.
  3. Sleeping bag single or double.
  4. Folding table.
  5. Set of dishes. Metal is best.
  6. Gas burner or tiles.
  7. Collapsible grill.
  8. Charcoal.
  9. Flashlight, for night lighting.
  10. Warm clothes, for a cool night. Or if you go out into nature outside of the summer season.
  11. Toys. For children, a ball, rackets, paper with pencils or paints, it depends on your imagination and desire. And also stock up on some.
  12. Products. Let's not forget about children and their nutrition.

Of course, you can not take all this, but you can take a bunch of other things, I don’t mind. But I'm leaning on mine personal experience, I’m writing in more detail about what to take with you on an overnight camping trip, because with a set of these things, the vacation always turns out to be a good one, which suits both me and my friends. Next, I want to explain why I consider the things I have listed necessary for a normal good rest.

Tent

Previously, when the car was smaller, to free up space in the cabin, I put up a tent next to the car, and everything that was not needed in the cabin was put in it. If it rains, things remain dry, and from an aesthetic point of view, there is more order in the camp, there are no things scattered here and there. You can also spend the night in a tent if the volume of the cabin does not allow everyone to fit in it. I have a simple, proven figure eight that unfolds easily and also easily folds into a ring.

Now, since the space in the new car allows you to place all your things inside, there is no need for a tent. If anyone doesn’t have a tent but still wants to buy one, I can recommend an inexpensive budget one. In the summer, when my wife and children went on vacation to the mountains, I bought for them an inexpensive, easy-to-assemble one, weighing only 2.150 kg, which is 2.0 kg less than a figure eight, assembled size in a case 0.59 * 0.19 * 0.1 m costing $33.

And when it started to rain in the mountains, it turned out to be very moisture resistant. In general, my family was pleased with the purchase.

If you plan to spend the night in a tent and don’t have a mattress, a lightweight mattress that does not allow moisture and heat to pass through is perfect instead.

Inflatable mattress

Since we travel by car and very often spend the night, we bought an inflatable double mattress, which fits very comfortably into the cabin.
When folded down, it takes up very little space. Immediately, there was no need to carry bulky cotton mattresses with you.

Double mattress

In order not to carry bedspreads, blankets, and pillows with you, I advise you to buy a single or double sleeping bag. And warm and cozy.

Lighting at night

When leaving for an overnight stay, I advise you to definitely take flashlights with you; now there are very convenient, economical ones for headlights on sale, but you can take any one as long as it’s bright.
I believe that batteries are best suited for a flashlight; they are capacitive and last a long time and there is no need to buy batteries every trip; besides, if you do not remove the batteries from the flashlight in time, they can leak and ruin the flashlight.

You can buy a small gasoline electric generator like my friends. Using a generator allows you to carry ordinary household appliances with you, it all depends on the power of the generator.

I won’t write much about the fact that you need to take warm clothes and a change of clothes with you; it goes without saying, it all depends on the time of year and the weather.

Convenience of relaxation - folding table and chairs

A folding table with chairs will free you from sitting on damp ground when eating, annoying ants and insects, as well as from debris and sand on the dinner blanket.
More to make it work good vacation in nature, especially when you go to one place for more than one day, and do not plan frequent trips. You can purchase a lightweight, collapsible tent with a mosquito net and detachable walls made of lightweight bologna. This tent can easily accommodate a table. In bad weather it will protect you from rain and wind, and on a hot day from the sun and annoying insects.

Dishes and various small items for an overnight stay in nature

By purchasing a ready-made set of camping utensils or collecting the utensils in a separate box or bag, you will save yourself the hassle of collecting cups, spoons, etc. when going outdoors. And upon arrival on vacation, the most unpleasant thing is if it turns out that something necessary was left at home. Here is a simple example of such a backpack in which the items listed below can easily fit.

  • four small deep plates
  • one big deep
  • four forks
  • four tablespoons
  • two tea
  • four mugs
  • scaler
  • cutting board
  • towel
  • flashlight
  • pest repellent
  • napkins
  • toilet paper
  • pan
  • small saucepan

It also contains gas-burner a nozzle with a cylinder, in case you need to light a fire in wet weather. The burner can sometimes be used to heat water or cook food.

What products to take with you on an overnight camping trip:

  • bottle of vegetable oil
  • bottle of vinegar
  • sugar
  • jar of flour
  • pepper
  • Bay leaf
  • dill, seasonings.

From medicines

  • citramon
  • chloramphenicol
  • hydrogen peroxide
  • cotton bandage
  • rubber bandage
  • and those medications that you deem necessary, depending on your health.

Detergents

It's also a good idea to put a bottle in it detergent so as not to put dirty dishes in your backpack.

Gas stove

To free yourself from collecting firewood and washing dishes, hands and clothes stained with soot from the fire, it is good to take with you a small gas stove with a can of gas. Now stores sell compact hiking ones.

You can cook with it anywhere, even right in the car. If you are a fan of cooking over an open fire or coals, I advise you to purchase a collapsible grill. Moreover, by lighting a fire on the ground you spoil nature and risk starting a fire. For the barbecue, in addition to skewers, it’s good to buy a grill grate in which you can fry shish kebab and chicken and fish and sausages... What else to take with you to the outdoors for cooking anything on the grill, it’s good to take with you charcoal, it is now sold in almost all hunting stores. This will free you from collecting a lot of firewood. Coal ignites well, burns for a long time, gives good heat and does not spark. You can extinguish the coal that has not burned completely and take it with you on your next trip.

What food to take with you when going outdoors:

There is no clear answer to the question of what to take with you to eat. It all depends on the material capabilities and tastes of each person. I will list what I take most often and you choose what you need.

  • Bread, loaf, grilled chicken, smoked or boiled sausage, sausages, bacon, salted lard, canned meat, pate, gingerbread, candy, salt, sugar.
  • Regular noodles, chicken soup set, instant noodles, shish kebab, frozen dumplings, raw or boiled eggs.
  • Fresh or salted tomatoes, fresh or salted cucumbers, onions, potatoes, fruits, watermelon, melon.
  • Drinking water mineral water, drinks, juice, milk.
  • Universal seasoning, tea leaves or coffee.

You can add something of your own. I would like to remind you that you need to pay attention to the terms and conditions of storage of food and eat all perishable items first.

What to take children to eat when going outdoors

Fresh air and running around create an appetite for children, and to curb it, I advise you to take with you a dry breakfast of cornballs or flakes, and a carton of milk with a screw cap. Although, of course, a lot depends on your capabilities and funds, as well as the capacity of your car or trailer.

HOW TO HAVE FUN YOURSELF AND ENTERTAIN YOUR CHILDREN IN NATURE then it seems to me that all the essentials that you need to take with you into nature so that both you and your household are satisfied with the trip. Enjoy your holiday!
